As already mentioned, please don't use advanced support subforum for such questions, it's mostly meant for rather complex question. Also I've adjusted the thread title to something more meaningful. And next time please copy&paste complete error messages here, and not abbreviate them.
Maybe you should read about software management at https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Software_management or maybe https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Install_and_ ... r_beginner

Please show the output as root of
Code: Select all
urpmq --list-media active
urpmi clamtk

Also I don't understand what you mean by many different issues ...

Could you please post the output to the commands I've asked for, copy&paste, especially for the first one?
Otherwise probably nobody is able to help you any further with this issue.
clamtk is definitely in the repos:
Code: Select all
[doktor5000@Mageia3 ~]$ urpmf -f --name -m clamtk
clamtk-4.44-2.mga3.noarch:Core Release
clamtk-4.44-2.mga3.noarch:Core 32bit Release

Code: Select all
[doktor5000@Mageia3 ~]$ urpmq --sources clamtk
ftp://ftp-stud.hs-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/Mageia/distrib/3/x86_64/media/core/release/clamtk-4.44-2.mga3.noarch.rpm
ftp://ftp-stud.hs-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/Mageia/distrib/3/i586/media/core/release/clamtk-4.44-2.mga3.noarch.rpm

clamtk can be easily installed:
Code: Select all
[root@Mageia3 ~]# urpmi clamtk
To satisfy dependencies, the following packages are going to be installed:
  Package                        Version      Release       Arch
(medium "Core Release")
  clamav                         0.97.8       1.mga3        x86_64

  clamtk                         4.44         2.mga3        noarch
66MB of additional disk space will be used.
55MB of packages will be retrieved.
Proceed with the installation of the 3 packages? (Y/n)

Sorry just can't comprehend your attitude. You've asked for help, I've offered help and asked for more details which you didn't provide. If you think I'm getting it wrong or you're being ripped off, you're totally free to do that, but that probably won't get you much further.

To the first one, urpmf, the command is accepted and returns to the prompt. Then the second line when input returns "bash: clamtk: command not found and the same result is returned by the third line with the 32 bit in it, bash: clamtk: command not found.
To the second command, urpmq, the return is No package named clamtk followed by the same return to both ftp commands "No such file or directory". Finally to the standard urpmi command the return is "No package named clamtk". Did all this in console as su.

Hi joeclem111,

Thanks for answering.

Do you mind posting the exact output, like doktor5000 did, so in between code tags? That makes it a lot easier to understand what goes on.

Please do the same for
Code: Select all
urpmq --list-media active

and
Code: Select all
urpmi clamtk

Which mirror do you use, btw? It can be useful to check its Mageia time stamp.

Good morning Marja, I have finally got clamtk on by chasing down one of the dependencies that the installer was complaining about and fixing it. I have also got adobe flash player on but I installed adobe reader from a .bin file but it will not run. Is there a post to show me how to make adobe reader work? when installing it, what directory should it ne in (I put it in sbin) and what then do we do to make the desktop icon actually execute the program? Also I have a bar appearing on the screen every 2 minutes. It has a screen icon on it and says 100%, how can I get rid of it?Thanks and happy new year to you.

When you execute the Adobe reader bin file (as root), you should accept the default location, /opt, which is the normal location for third-party applications. You should definitely not install it to /sbin. Since /sbin is not in your path, you would be unable to launch acroread as a normal user.

(FYI: on Mageia 3 /sbin is actually a symlink to /usr/sbin)

Thank you Jim, I re-installed accepting /opt and I get the same result. The reader is in the office menu. I copied it to the desktop but it will not launch from either the icon or the menu entry. I made sure the bin file was chmod +x before I installed it.

No problems Jim, thanks for your help. I have acroread installed and working. I have one ongoing issue which I have developed a work around for with Mageia 3 which is on another thread so all is good. Nice to have worked with you.

Joeclem111 are you aware that Mageia is not made by a company? Everybody involved with Mageia does so completely voluntarily. That includes everybody, those who build the distribution, write the documentation, run the servers and those who offer help to others here on the forums.

Your comments on your blog are way off target. Doktor5000 is a contributor, as is everybody else here, not an employee. He is not a 'help assistant' in the deragotory manner you refer to him. He is one of the most active and helpful contributors, giving freely of his time to help others. You may want to reflect that fact in your assassination of his efforts.

I am aware of your comments AND, you need to know I have been a Linux user since 2005. I am a retired IT consultant, specialised in system security. I ran a help desk function, I have done some programming very succesfully and I CAN spot a square peg in a wrong hole. I dearly want to see Mageia go forwards but the DOKTOR does know unix command lines but does NOT have a good enough knowledge of the systems he/she attempts to support. Have you ever heard of the "silent shopper"? Our Doktor may have the dubious label of "dipstick" because of his/her Germanic pedantic attitude which is not what Mageia needs, we need those people I paid tribute to for being what the public need when help is asked for! I will be a user and supporter of Mageia, no question, BUT you will never have my support for the DOKTOR, I think their continued involvement in the support function for Maggy wil hurt us all in the long run UNLESS the Doktor takes lessons in the software they are trying to supportl Whilst you may not like this answer, it is given with honesty and accuracy and I will freely give my time to help promote Mageia and help all those who wish to join us. Sorry, but your Doktor needs an injection. If you wish to take issue with me on this, I give you my word it is with us, it will not be on my web site! My interest is to show the world what M/soft is doing, to make people see what software like Mageia can do for them and thus promote what we already know to be the truth. If you want a fight, I don't but, if you want an intelligent conversation, try me, you may be surprised BUT, I stand by all I said about your DOKTOR because I suffered their constant attention in my bug fix efforts and it was the knowledge of Yankee495 and their lovely attitude in talking to me that made the answer be clear. The pedantic attitude of our DOKTOR made nothing clear except that it would be difficult to resolve my problems with such a character, READ AND LEARN! Ask your Doktor why he/she didn't tell me about the "dim" buttons in power management which was the fix? If the dipstick knew about this I would have been done and away 24 hours earlier! We would never have been here but, let us talk, maybe I can be of help.

You are very much out of order I'm affraid Joe and completely wrong. Doktor5000 was not required to attempt to assist you in any way shape or form, and neither were the others, they did so out of the goodness of their own heart, not because you were entitled to it. You are not a customer demanding satisfaction from a customer support agent.

The forums team maintain the usability of the forum for all Mageia users. This includes ensuring posts are in the correct subforum, which yours quite obviously are not, and users adhere to our code of conduct https://www.mageia.org/en/about/code-of-conduct/

Frankly, to anybody who has even the slightest contact with the Mageia forum, your blog post says more of yourself than doktor5000.

Personally I'd like to thank doktor5000 and everybody else on the forums for their patience with our more 'entitled' users.

Your users should not be "entitled" , they all belong to the Mageia community! All users should have the right to ask any question to help them with any problem AND get the right answer straight away, not a part answer from someone who does not fully understand the software! ! Mageia is the best op system I have ever used so we all should try to help the world to see this and move them to use Mageia. I do not want this discussion to continue unless the input is intelligent as I am not in the habit of wasting my time so, leave it unless your input will take the Mageia community forward, OK?

Now this discussion has been going on far too long, it is time to make up minds.
We have been gone off-track from the original topic far enough now, to make it end.
Therefore, i decided to close the topic.
