[SOLVED] KDE wastebin/Trash not working

Postby joeclem111 » Dec 31st, '13, 15:28

I have just upgraded from Mageia 2 to 3. The wastebin on the deskyop has no logo, only a grey wheel. The desktop.trash file has 0 bytes. If I try to access it, I get a message "the desktop file trash has no type- type=. What is the entry I need to put in here please, or how can I make it work, thank you.

Please don't use advanced support subforum for such questions, it's mostly meant for rather complex question. And please next time use a meaningful title.

Sorry but I have just upgraded to Mageia 3 and hoped all would go well. Where should I ask this and how do you expect me to know where you want a question placed. Further more, it is not just a missing icon, the trash file does NOT work. If I try to use it I am told to manually empty the trash, which I do not knowhow to do. I need to re-install the trash function and have tried all I know. I have used Mandrake/Mandriva/Mageia since 2006 and have a few clues but I am being defeated by both this problem and your approach to the help function. I still live in hope that you might be a bit more reasonable and realise that people only ask for help when they really need it.

The link posted previously explains how to get the trash icon back, either by adding it as plasmoid or by manually recreating a launcher for it.
Both methods work fine here. Also if you say "it does not work" what does that mean exactly? If you don't provide more details, can't help you much further than that.
Sorry that's just what it is.

Totally apart from that, may you let us know why you set the title to "[ Self Resolved ]"? How was it resolved?

Sorry if you're offended by the advice to use a more fitting subforum or a meaningful title, but this helps to improve clarity and others with similar problems to find existing solutions to their problems. Maybe you've overseen that I've already renamed the thread and moved it to the basic support subforum ...

Maybe you should create a separate thread if this issue is caused by an incomplete upgrade to Mageia 3 or by offending KDE configuration files ...

The fix is to right click in the TOP RIGHT corner on the desktop symbol. There you elect to "add widgets" and select the trashcan. Finally if you right click the trash can symbol it will allow you to select the "link to application" option and it is done.
