[DONE] Different memsize

Postby mackowiakp » Dec 26th, '13, 12:26

I use M3 on different computers. One of them is DELL D610 (very old laptop). I use it as media server - without starting graphics.
It has 1 GB memory installed (DDR2 - 2x512 MB) and setup shown exactly 1GB. "top" and /proc/meminfo shows 1GB too.
But drakconf -> harddrake shows in graphical environment - 2 GB of RAM !. It is something strange for me, maybe anybody knows explanation?

Depends how it is represented by mainboard/BIOS e.g. in dmidecode

But "top" and /proc/meminfo shows correctly memsize. Does it mean that drakxxxx uses different mechanism to show amount of memory?

Of course I read Your post. But still it is strange for me that graphical interface does not shows correctly the hardware I use. OK, as I understand it is "feature" of drakxxxx. No problem.

So did you compare the output of dmidecode with what is shown in harddrake2?

Yep. dmidecode shows 2 x 512 modules, drakxxx - total - 2 GB

But - extremely strange. In my PC all tools shows correctly - 4 GB RAM. But in my laptop is physically 2 GM RAM - drakxxxx shows 1 GB !!!

If you want to know, report it as a bug, which it is - after searching if it hasn't been reported yet already: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/How_to_report_a_bug_properly
EDIT: Sounds similar to https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9992 and https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5810

I upgraded memory in my server to new one type and now drakxxx shows correctly memsize. But in laptop is still incorrect.
