DVD films

Postby erk » Nov 18th, '13, 18:07

I have installed Mageia3 64 bit from the live DVD.
When I put a DVD film in the computer,it detects it has been installed, but it won't let me play it with any program.
How can I fix this?

Enable the tainted/release and tainted/updates repositories and update your video player to the tainted version. You may also have to install the libdvdcss2 package.

I did this but it did not work!
How do I install the libdvdcss2 package?
I tried searching for it in Rpmdrake 5.49 but it is not installed, and I can not find how to install it

How do I install the libdvdcss2 package?

Make sure that both drop down filters are set to ALL:

https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Software_man ... e_software

(The tainted mplayer package should work without libdvdcss2, but the tainted versions of some other video players may require it.)

1) both drop down filters were set to all,and it still will not find it.
2) the mplayer in the list does not seem to be the tainted version.how do i know?

I should have said if you're using 64bit Mageia, the package is lib64dvdcss2 and not libdvdcss2. Sorry for the confusion.

In Install & Remove Software the "Release" column will include the word "tainted", if the package is the tainted version.

You need to have the tainted/release and tainted/updates repositories enabled:

https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Software_man ... ia_sources

You can confirm which repositories are enabled by opening a terminal/konsole and entering:
Code: Select all
urpmq --list-media active

Jim

Edit: I don't play DVD movies on my computer very often, but I have used the tainted VLC media player successfully (with lib64dvdcss2).
