(SOLVED) serial port lockfile permissions again?

Postby waferhead » Nov 21st, '13, 02:28

var/lock seems to have changed again with MGA4, how are we giving users permission to use serial ports again?
Even the fixpermission script I used with mga3 no longer works. (/run/lock etc)

Fought with it for awhile and gave up, has anyone else had any luck with current Cauldron and serial ports? (including hotplug USB>serial adapters)

Could you please at least show the permissions of one file/directory which is not as expected, and which permissions you want to grant?

FWIW as /var/run and /run/lock are both tmpfs, manual changes via chown/chmod will not persist during reboot.

Check https://wiki.mageia.org/en/System_Servi ... .2Flock.29 and also man pages for systemd-tmpfiles and tmpfiles.d and check the existing examples in /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/

Thanks, looks like excellent info.

Digging in a bit, it appears the "rxtx-nolock" library functionality has become std, so it may be a matter of updating the application to use the right library//methods.

There should be no need for lockfiles as the lib takes care of it internally.

Long story short, the script I had been using in /etc/rc.d stopped working in the upgrade to 4b1 (the upgrade actually failed), so I moved it to /etc/rc.local.

It simply set /run/lock owner and permissions. It works as /etc/local and is far simpler.

rxtx still isn't a part of Mageia, please disregard.
