Well, it did have a whole string of messages..... but I could not write them all down.... it was saying something about not being able to load the plymouth splash screen.... HOWEVER;, I did find the problem.
Not sure why it was a problem but:
I have three hard drives: an old 60 gig IDE, and two SATA. The IDE is WD, the SATA Seagate. I have my system on the 60, my home on one of the large SATA drives.
I disconeected all but the 60 gig, reinstalled, rebooted, shutdown, reconnected the sata drives, rebooted, remounted my home as one of the SATA drives, rebooted and it is now working. I remember from the IDE days where some of the Seagates did not like being in the same box as WD's but thought those weird problems where behind us.
