Maybe your card (as described as old) is not supported by 270 branch ? Maybe trying 96.xx / 170.xx branches ?
(Warning, this can crash X totally and may need tty to go through this resolution ...)

- The GeForce 6200 is supported, according to upstream, by the nvidia-current driver series
- 96.xx doesn't work with X server 1.10.x, so it's a no-go

Hi !

I confirm that with opengl, my computer is very very slow. The time to open a console or firefox is more around 30 to 40 second than 3 or 4 second like normally.

driconf exit with an error (LibGL is too old)
When I run glxinfo, direct rendering is enabled, and opengl version is 1.4

I also tried to install open source driver to reinstall the nvidia one later... without really any success.

I foudn that I had in my repository some old drivers from mandriva. 195 with kernel 2.6.33.
I removed it. but I saw no change in performance.

I tried too the 173 drivers, in case of.
But it's slow too.

For you information, my CPU is around 4-6% when I do nothing, but when I move the mouse I can go up to 25% with the open gl effect activated and nvidia...

Any idea ?
Thanks
Pierre

Anybody has any idea ? I 'm out of inspiration now...

As far I remember, open gl was never a problem with this card

So some updates from cauldron...

Now, desktop effets works... kind of...

If I use nvidia drivers 1.73 everything works fine on my geforce 6200. open gl with DRI checked.
If I use nvidia drivers 2.?? It works, but only with DRI disabled.

So it's slower with the current drivers than with the older.

I'm currently with current drivers and I check when I see KDE, kernel or nvidia updates if it's better.

In all conditions driconf doesn't works

Does anyone have other ideas ?
I'm using the latest cauldron nvidia driver, the latest dri package, and I still get this line :
Code: Select all
pmithrandir]# driconf
libGL is too old.

Kwin still does not work with KDE effect...

I am also having this problem on an HP Mini notebook with an Atom processor and NVidia GPU.

For me, the problem is worst when I am working in a terminal (konsole or xterm). Keyboard responsiveness is very slow.

If I change the render method to Xrender from opengl in the KDS settings, I can recover function, and the system is fast enough to be tolerable, but I lose several of the opengl dependent desktop effects (Desktop Cube, wobbly windows....)

Hope we can get some movement on this, it seems to be a long-standing problem. I have not checked to see if a bug report has been filed.

Try to enable open gl, but to disable direct rendering.

It was one of the 3 method to get my env working.
(others are to disable dsesktop effect or to use xrender)

Cool, that seems to have worked, Konsole is still a little slow, but tolerable.

Thanks!
