Thats a good start, no config file. Then cutting out modules from Xorg and adding them one by one could give you some additional ideas.

If you try another desktop and/or display manager (ex.gdm) it will eliminate any problems with KDE, kdm.

LXDE has its own display manager. You can try that.

xorg.conf is no longer a requirement!

It provides you a way to make additional configurations and tuning!

There is some talk about this chipset and HD decoding and/or problems above 720p but I am having issues even at 144/240/360p so may there is some flash or decoder issue going on.

[UPDATE] apparently jolicloud can play HD content on the GMA 3150. D/L'ed and ran live version and indeed it does use chromium ( don't know which version) and does play 360/480p fairly well and can actually play 720p with just a slight lag behind audio. Every now and then the video trips ( don't know if it is buffering or cpu/gpu chopping) but actually gets thru it.

So rebooted into MGA 2 installed chromium and this mga version is unable to play 720p but is actually muddling (occasional laggy) thru 360p even though "top" reports chromium as using 157% of cpu. Will try this with and without hdwr acceleration and desktop effects on/off and report back.
