Modem help

Postby drew77 » Sep 26th, '13, 04:49

I have been trying to get my Linux capable USB modem setup so I can dial out to an ISP.

My wireless ISP is down on occasional or more and I have to use my plain old telephone.

I have Qinternet installed but Yast2 says it is not configured. ??

I entered the provider's number to dial and went with the default modem commands.

Can someone help me configure my modem to dial out ?

Thanks.

yast2 sounds like you are running Suse

you may be better off in suse forums for that.

They could/would not help feeling like not many people used modems anymore.

I heard that Mageia was somewhat close to OpenSuse.

Actually no. Suse is descended from Debian, Mageia is descended from Redhat. There are some pretty significant differences between the distros, though I would not expect this to affect modem drivers.

You should be able to configure the modem via drakconnect though ...

drakconnect is installed by default - that is, if you currently have Mageia installed. As you mentioned you had Yast2 open, are you sure you're curently using Mageia?
Please show the output of
Code: Select all
cat /etc/*release

For documentation about Mageia Control Center and drakconnect as one of its modules please have a look at
http://doc.mageia.org/mcc/3/en/content/index.html and http://doc.mageia.org/mcc/3/en/content/drakconnect.html
You launch it directly by entering
Code: Select all
drakconnect
as root or you launch
Code: Select all
mcc
(drakconf) and select Network and Internet -> Set up a new network interface (LAN, ISDN, ADSL, ...)
