Hi,

Congratulations to Mageia Team for the great idea.

I liked the idea of creating this window welcome.. I liked the aesthetics and organization and I think it will be a great project for Mageia. And it will be even better with the suggestions from everyone: Wiki:Suggestions for MageiaWelcome

Hi,

I really appreciated the welcome screen of Mageia 4.

Mageia 4 innovated with four pages (Welcome, Fist step, App and About) with very useful tools for installation popular software, links to other configuration tools of Mageia, user tips and many other links to the internet. And may improve (see suggestions in wiki)
      Image
It is interesting to know the screens welcome other distros. There are several styles, but most of them have only one page containing some links to the internet.

      Fedora 4, do site LPT - 2006 -
--> Not exactly a welcome screen. It is a sequence of steps to the basic settings of Fedora, but in the case of Mageia, these settings are made during installation.
      Image

      Suse 8.0 do site Distrowatch - 07/July/2002
--> have only one page containing some links to the internet. I couldn't know exactly how it works because it is a very old version

What does the Linux Mint welcome screen offer? Are those only links to websites? What about the rest of the welcome screen, besides maybe the Fedora one.
Where do they guide you through the normal desktop setup and often-requested features like multimedia codecs or popular software packages with one click?
How are they better or worse then the proposed Mageia Welcome screen?

Please not only post some huge screenshots without context information and some pros and cons.

That's looking super fine

Good idea with the repos/media. it does catch a lot out when they want flash and what not installing.

Shot in the dark but can we have a screen for setting the hostname/Network as the fist step

Pretty please with a cherry on top

I LOVE IT!

Great work by all involved in that. What an awesome feature. Should make installs/upgrades incredibly simple for the GUI crowd.

Hi all
yestedays update 1.2G and there it is.
kicked the tyres, took it for a spin. Works well.

Well done to all concerned .... \0/

Just 2 small suggestions : on the MCC page some text near the MCC launcher to advise " Administrator password is needed "
and near the " Check system updates " launcher " user password is needed " .

New users coming from windows may be unaware of the two levels of security as often they only have one system [ logon ] password [ if any ]

Hi,

My suggestion for MageiaWelcome: put on the "More" page, the presentation of Mageia for beginners - wiki. This is just a suggestion. The shape of the buttons and text content may be different, perhaps a summary (a short text):

Note: already added my suggestion in Wiki Mageia. Anyone with suggestions, showing soon.

Just taking Alpha 3 for a spin now: I'm liking this! Installing flash couldn't be easier.

My only tip is perhaps the < > buttons are perhaps a bit too small, as it took me a bit to work out how to operate the panel.

Awesome feature. You guys should be proud!

I come from using Kubuntu for two years and could not install Mageia, but I found this Mageia alpha 3 of 4 and I'm delighted with it, so I have left it as SO principal.
Congratulations! ;)

MageiaWelcome - in Mageia 4 Alpha 3

filip wrote:What problems did you encounter?

There is a problem with the Apps installed because I do not anything that framework, I try whenever I get this warning:

urpmi database is locked, the process is using 5731) (/ usr / bin / perl / usr / libexec / urpmi.update nonfree 32bit Backports Testing)

I leave to spend a few minutes I try again and again I get the warning. I have to do it by terminal or Mageia Control Center GUI

I have installed Mageia April 64 bit alpha 3 on a Samsung laptop with 8 Gb RAM

Hi Ghermain

Unless you actually utilize non-free 32bit backports testing, try to dis-able it in your repository list and see if that improves things

Mageia Welcom in Mageia 4 RC

Postby linuxero » Jan 20th, '14, 17:52

Hi Mageians;

Thanks for everybody for the great work on this lovely distro.

Just was hovering a bit in the live RC of Mageia 4 and then I thought; although MW - "Mageia Welcome" - clearly points out that repos should be added first, I still think that it should not allow the user to select apps to install! Maybe it can check for the correct setup of repos first..otherwise; in cas the user tries to install several apps without having set up the required repos first, MW could grab all the uninstallable packages and show one error message instead of popping out plenty of error messages windows corresponding to the uninstallable apps..

Thanks again

If you have suggestions, please add them on the relevant wiki page: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Suggestions_ ... eiaWelcome
Apart from that, it's quite late as we're already in version freeze.
