question about razorqt

although im a kde user , each release brings to KDE another bunch of unnecessary bloat, that i have to switch off.

whilst browsing the rasbian forums i noticed a link about razorqt http://www.berryterminal.com/doku.php/rasprazor

and that led me to Dereks page https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Razorqt_Desktop.

im really interested in this, and would like to hear any more that anyone may have done with it.

Does it work with mageia 2, as im still holding back on mageia 3, because of it not delivering the same kde4 experience as mageia 1 and 2 do.

razorqt and kwin maybe the best way of getting what i want from kde, ie eliminate plasma....., in the future.

From what i remember, yes it does work in Mageia 2. Although it doesn't necessarily come with all the comfort which KDE has, and it's not that much "faster".

Do you want to share what you're missing from the KDE experience under Mageia 3?
Here it's quite snappy, after disabling all useless stuff (Nepomuk, Strigi, Akonadi, Activities ...).

number 1 : kde4-style-iaora-common

number 2 : a general feeling that the kde developers are only interested in those that want eye candy and bouncing menus, ie more and more plasma, and to much mac like look as default in the widgets sets, ie oxygen.

I hate macosx as you might gather....

number 3: a return to a kde 4 modern look with, a hang on to the conservative aproach of kde3

on the face of it, razorqt seems to offer all this.

its not about the speed, i run very fast hardware anyway.

its all a matter of taste realy, and kde is looking less like the taste i want going forward.

From what I remember razorqt in Mageia 2 is considerably less developed than in Mageia 3.

You could use it with kde apps without having to run Plasma, but there are still limitations with the desktop. For example there are only the two not very useful widgets available, and files can only be placed on the desktop within the file widget (much like in KDE4.0 if you remember that)

I use razorqt on my ancient Asus eee because the qt apps like qupzilla and qpdfview are so small and fast compared to their gtk equivalents.

I have not tried it in Mga4 alpha yet. I must get around to giving it a spin.

Why not try it out in a Vbox if you do not want to upgrade from mga2 yet?

just fired up razorqt on my magia3 test desktop machine.

OK I admit its a little bare, but once you replace its own file manager, email client and web browser with your own choice, ie
in my case dolphin firefox and thunderbird, its closer to what i want that kde currently offers under mageia 3.

a bit like lxde on steroids.

A bit of playing with themes etc, and it could be quite good, and definitly something to watch out for in mga4, as if i dont like kde in mga3, im 99% sure im going to be finished with it in mga4

but you still get some of the good bits of kde as its using kwin
