Printer Contrast/Grey Scale

Printer Contrast/Grey Scale

Postby drichard58 » Jul 5th, '13, 22:03

I have an older HP LaserJet 6P and have problems with the color of the font. Even though it is a monochrome printer and I select black as the font color from LibreOffice Writer or any other application, the print-out always seems to come out a light/medium grey color.

I don't think it's the printer because when I print from Winders applications, the output is fine.

I have CUPS installed and it recognizes the printer and installed the default driver (HP LaserJet 6p, hpcups 3.12.9).

I also have HPLIP 3.12.9 installed. It didn't see the printer (which is on a JetDirect), so I added it manually, but still didn't see an option to change the color depth or intensity (everything is set to the default setting).

Any suggestions?

Give this site a try:

If I had to guess, I would say it is a setting issue. Is there any indication it may be printing is draft or economy mode when it prints light? http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Black-and- ... -p/2626853

Try to find settings in cups that would darken the print. If you are new to cups, do some searching for how to change settings in cups, etc.

Those old HP LJ printers are durable and last and last. We had one at work and it earned my admiration.

For hplip, you may want to have a look here: http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/support.html
