I hope that this is the correct place to post these problems (I have some other posts). 2 weeks ago I upgraded Mageia #2 to #3 by clicking on the indicative icon in the TaskBar. Here is what has been happening so far.
Upgraded to Mageia #3
Upgrade went smootly. First night – and every night after (overnight) - I had a major system failure (I hope you can see the photo of screen with white text in the link following) - http://s1099.photobucket.com/user/Myles5712/media/Mageia%203%20Problems/Failurescreen-Mageia3upgrade-2_zpsbc04254f.jpg.html. At first I thought it was Lucky Backup barfing on some files I had copied from a Windows system - it complained about non – unicode characters; or wide characters or some rubbish. I stopped Lucky Backup automatic backup and still it happened. I went into syslog (root/var/log/syslog) and couldn’t see anything about why my system died. This happened 6 nights in a row. I would be using my PC early in the evening, then watch TV (on a TV not the PC). I heard Lucky Backup start at 11pm and complete. Then when I come into my study in the morning, I cannot wake up my PC, or I am greeted with the screen full of white text (as shown in the image above).
So, I decided to do a complete install of Mageia 3. That went well – well the install part went well not anything else! I have had the same problems since re-installing! And, when my system has failed, I re-boot, logon and go to where “syslog” used to be (root/var/log/syslog) and it isn’t there! Neither are a lot of logs that used to to be there in Mageia # 2, so I don’t know why my system has failed!
So, I stopped the screen lock to see if I could see if the same white text screen was evident on failure when I go into my study in the morning – unfortunately, my monitor screen goes to sleep and then I can hear my PC is alive but I can’t wake it up – my monitor says “No Signal detected”.
Something else that has happened, 3 or more times I have clicked on an active task icon in the Task bar and BOOM, no system and the screen full of white text!
A couple of nights ago I left a TV show part-watched, paused in VLC - System stayed alive all night and my monitor screen didn’t sleep! So I thought that was interesting.
Well it happened again last night I did the same as above. I left a part-watched movie paused in VLC, switched off the monitor and went out for a few hours. When I returned I switched on the monitor only to be greeted with the WTSOD – The White Text Screen Of Death!
So now I have no idea what is wrong or how to go about fixing it.
Any help/assistance would be greatly appreciated.
