powersave mode stops hard drive when it active

Postby syrnyk » Jun 16th, '11, 00:52

Hi,
I have problem on my MSI cx600 notebook with Mageia 1 32-bit. When on battery, the harddrive always trying to stop, every minute, even when playing video or browsing local files. Editing of powersaving mode with graphical tools in Gnome or KDE not helps. I found, that command "/usr/sbin/pm-powersave true" do the same thing as switching off AC power and "/usr/sbin/pm-powersave false" rescues my harddrive from this deadly powersaving. Then I was changed the default values for battery mode in "/usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/harddrive" script, but problem remains.
How to configure powersaving rules for harddrive-healthy operating? Thanks

You could take a look here:
System settings > Power management (or something like that) > Power profiles.

It seems like in my system the command "hdparm -B level /dev/sda" activates aggressive powersaving, when level is any value less than 128. So my solution is editing of "/usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/harddrive" by setting the default value DRIVE_POWER_MGMT_BAT to 128

By any chance, don't you have laptop-tools installed? It is not installed by default I think, but this behavior is what one could expect from it.
