[DONE] Mageia 3 slight upgrade issues: Not a happy bunny

Being a naturally cutious type, When it came to updating to ver 3, I first installed it (from scratch), on my other desktop, used as a test bed machine. No problems. Beautiful install. Emboldened, I UPDATED on my Asus eepc. Minor problems with wifi (see Wifi connection on an Asus netbook). Then updated my IBM Thinkpad. same problem as the netbook, but easily overcome. The latter two are 32 bit machines, the first, like my main desktop 64 bit . So, on with confidence to my main machine. Confidence completley shattered. On updating, the monitor indicated that there were 36 failed installs, and went on in a circle to try again. This time only 4 failed installs. From here on, disaster. The machine went into a closed, and inescapable loop of trying, and failing to install the foour problem packages. I had, in the end to press the reset button to get out of the infinite loop cycle. Needless to say, the consequent installation failed to run. So I neither had the old instal, or the updated install. So It had to be a complete install, from scratch. Which meant that my carefully selected application set, was gone , and would have to be all individually installed from scratch. If I could remember what they all were. The update operatioin from Mga One to Two ran sweet enough. What was particularly annoying was that I had a Medusa CAD package on the old setup, and despite the fact that it was a 32 bit application, worked well. I was hoping it would continue to work. I put it on the test machine and it would not run, neither would the machine install the 32 bit support paqckages, to let it run. Re-instlling Mageia as a 32 bit setup and the package works fine. So there's no hope that my main machine will run it either, unless I change over to 32 bit systems there, too.

How did you attempt the upgrade? Did you install the mageia-prepare-upgrade package and reboot?

I noticed the Mageia sites (web site and repositories) were intermittently unavailable yesterday, perhaps maintenance or a nearby DDoS attack. Whatever the reason, you may have gotten incomplete packages or missed some altogether due to server errors.

Just the way I've always upgraded or installed. Booted off the install DVD, and selected,in this case to "Update", rather than the "Install" option. It worked fine on my 32 bit machines. It's fine now, but I'll probably realise in the next few days (weeks), that something that should be there, isn't.. And go and install it.

Any particular reason posting this in the Network subforum? As it seems not that much of a support-type thread, more of a summary of your upgrade experience. Correct?

Yes, I'm sorry about that. I'd bookmarked the page where I had a network connected post, and omitted to move up into the general area before posting again. I've smacked myself on the wrist, and tolds myself not to do it again.

No problem, and also no smacking needed :)
I'm moving it to the appropriate subforum, for further problems please post in a fitting subforum, and one thread for each problem, thanks.
