
Add acpi_backlight=vendor to your kernel commandline. This might solve this issue for a while.
There has been a bunch of changes for 3.9 kernel in acpi, so I thought i would wait for 3.9 kernel series and file a bug report then"

Only partly correct, ATI removed a lot of driver support.
