KDM very dark

KDM very dark

Postby lorenzo111 » May 21st, '13, 16:21

Im and old Mandrake user read about Mageia thought I would give it a whrl. Started using Mageia2 on my Lenovo Ideapad n580 no issues. I did a clean install to Mageia 3. After install completed no issues I would get the graphical screen to boot into Mageia 3 and then just black. A little troubleshooting later I decided to connect to a external display using hdmi out and it worked on the external and then popped up my labtop screen. Once I disconnected hdmi from labtop kde display monitor setup popped up asked me to configure new display. Made the selection to default to labtop monitor and rebooted. The KDM display is very dark almost cant see it. I just type in my user name and pw and then it logs me in fine now. I tried the XDM same issue only on first boot. Any help would be much appreciated.

It sounds like the backlight isn't on. You didn't mention if you checked the brightness setting eith from the keyboard or from the battery icon. Try Ctrl+Alt+F2 to get ti a virtual terminal. Return to the GUI with Ctrl+Alt+F1. If you can see the login prompt then the backlight is working and it's mostly likely a power setting issue or there might be a brightness setting in the BIOS if it's a laptop.
