ATI 4870 and earlier. NO 3D acceleration on Mageia3

Hi!

It seems that Mageia3 doesn't have the non-free drivers for HD4870 and earlier, I used the free drivers but they don't have 3D acceleration
So, I downloaded the legacy drivers from amd site, but when i tried to install...

"glrx installation requires that the system have kernel headers. /lib/modules/3.8.13-desktop-1.mga3/build/include/linux/version.h cannot be found on this system."

I've installed the kernel devel files, kernel source and kernel-userspace-headers packages, but the error persist.

Anyone knows how to install these drivers on Mageia3, or enable 3D acceleration on free drivers?

There was a brief note on the errata regarding this, "AMD dropped support of Radeon HD 2000/3000/4000 in Catalyst" so it is unlikely you will get the proprietary driver to work. I don't own anything with ATI graphics so not really able to advise on the free driver though, sorry.

I've got good quality 3D using the free drivers, but I am using a 5870.

AMD moves it to legacy drivers, they won't have new features and only will be updated to correct bugs, but the drivers could be installed. In mageia 2 i didn't have any problem with her installation.

VoodooDali, have you openGL acceleration with free drivers? Did you do something to activated it?

Didn't really do anything special; I didn't even have to change any of the default settings.

With free drivers is impossible to play any complex game as Counter Strike or X3 :S

I will try to downgrade xserver to 1.12 from mageia2... :/

Yeah, it's an unfortunate trade-off for me. :/ I can't play certain games using the free driver, but I can't view Netflix or YouTube with the proprietary AMD/ATi Catalyst driver. So I have to switch between them and reboot.

Downgrade xserver from mageia2 didn't work, it broken mageia3 installation :S
Any ideas?

It seems that the ATI free driver doesn't work either. I have had to resort to the VESA driver in order to get my graphics to work at all. At least in MGA2, the free ATI driver worked. Anybody gotten their ATI video to work with older cards?

FYI - My video is a ATI All-In-Wonder X600 PCI Express card (RV370).
