Radeon X700

Radeon X700

I can't get 3d acceleration to work with this video card. This means no gnome and no compiz.
I had to disable Translucency because Xorg gets stuck (first login has been a pain)
In the Mageia Control Center I tried several driver options:
-Vendor -> ATI -> Radeon HD 4870 and earlier (the default option)
-Vendor -> ATI -> r300/r400/r500 based FireGL (this should be the right choise, but in fact it doesn't change anything)
-Xorg -> ati (no effect)
-Xorg -> Vesa (gives an error if i run the test)
but no one seems to change anything.

In addition to this sometimes I have complete freezes and I have to reboot :(

Yeah those options won't work as you dont' have a Radeon HD or Firebird card. Another user was having a similar problem with his X200/X300. I belive he was going to submit a bug to address the MGA display wizard options. I didn't think that the Radeon X#### chipset supported Opengl stuff, but I guess that's not true. You can try downloading the X700 drivers direct from ATI and see how that goes. Otherwise your stuck with VESA for now.
