Mageia Br in trouble

Postby otto » Apr 17th, '13, 01:01

To whoever can help,
I am Otto Sá (the founder and the Mageia Br administrator) from Mageia Brazil. But we are confronting problems because we don't have anylonger the host to keep our forum; the Mageia Br wiki and the Mageia news Blog. And no money at all to hire a new one. Once Mageia.org promissed to help us to get a new host to locate the Mageia Br. Thus, this is the opportunity to help us. We are out of order for more than two weeks and no hope to get back sooner. I am looking forward to hear from you. This is our last chance to get Mageia Br alive again. The Mageia Brazil has a large community and we have no place anylonger to discuss about Mageia there. We are eager to solve it up because Mageia is about releasing Mageia 3 on may, 2nd, 2013.
Cheers.
Otto Sá. (the founder and the Mageia Br administrator).

Hello fraterlinux,
An account has been set up using the domain name mageiadobrasil.com.br as requested by Otto Sa. Details of login and account have been sent to him.
A pity you cannot use the forums original domain name ?

Hi Chris,
I didn't have the opportunity to explain to you earlier. For your information the http://forum.mageiabr.org/ is the old domain hosted by 4host in Brazil (the older supporter). The http://www.mageiadobrasil.com.br/ is the Mageia Brazil new domain registered by myself.I will update sooner the Mageia.org (the wiki).
Cheers.

This is great news :-D

We shouldn't forget to ask Maat to change the link to the Brazilian forum. And I should check for maybe a link in our wiki that needs to be changed (maybe there is one on a page about local communities). I'll report here after checking.

Thanks for the update, Otto :-D

The new forum looks really nice (but so did the last one ;) )

https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Working_with_local_communities#First_list_of_communities and
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Forums_team#Other_Mageia_forums
have now been updated.
Maat will change the links here https://forums.mageia.org/en/index.php and https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewforum.php?f=20

Do more mageia.org links need to be updated, or is this all?

Is it possible for people outside Brazil to join the forum? (Asking because that wasn't easy with the former Brazilian forum.)

Ah, yes: at least 4 links to the Brazilian forums on this page:
http://www.mageia.org/pt-br/community/

Is that all or is there more?

Do you have time to make a bug report for that, Otto? This is something only someone from the webteam can do.

Actually any i18n team leader can do it as those are not hardcoded into php. These link are in lang files (intended for i18n). Padula was very active on them IIRC.

PS.: I have a side question. Web pages are well translated for pt-br but much less for pt. Are there any volunteers for that in old forum or new one of course?

Ah, nice, I didn't know they were in the lang files :)

Is it really needed? I've never met anyone Portuguese who had a problem understanding Brazilian Portuguese. We don't have separate translations for British English, USA English, Australian English etc. either, even if they do have slight differences in spelling, vocabulary and grammar, too.

TBH, I think the Brazilian translations can be copied to the missing Portuguese ones. Docteam did the same for installer help for Mageia 2, and so far no one complained.

Dear marja,

Please remove this old url as brazilian official forum at

http://www.mageiabr.org/forum/

Our Brazilian Mageia forum (official) now which is under construction is located at

http://mageiadobrasil.com.br/forum/

However, we are under testing and maintenance, new users can join there easily.

Cheers.

As regarding portuguese translations in my opinion It's not necessary anylonger because Brazil and Portugal has orthography agreement. There are only slight differences.
Thanks at all.

Thanks, I didn't heard for "orthography agreement" before. What exactly does it mean?

So basically we (i18n team) can copy "pt-br" web translation files to "pt" as Marja suggested?

An agreement about spelling rules, when to use a comma etc.

Otto

It is very important that migrated content from old forum http://forum.mageiabr.org/ to the new forum, because we have a lot of material help and tips since Mageia 1.
If you can not, at least should have the link for those looking for support in portuguese for older versions as Mageia 1 and same Mageia 2.

It's working. Already done! The Mageia do Brasil blog news is almost ready at http://mageiadobrasil.com.br/portal/
Please, drop in on there and take a chance for the new Mageia do Brasil. For the the Mageia novices we have advanced support team to help them up there.

Dear Otto,
When we forget the rights and wrongs of the past, we risk repeating them unnecessarily. We are already in the new forum, but all that work should not be lost. There are many hours of volunteer work that can be thrown away ...

:D
Dear fraterlinux,
Certainly not. All the stuff there should not be lost at all.The Mageia do Brasil team are struggling too much to save everything from there to copy (control c and control v) to the new one. We are facing problems because the old wiki is full of spams. For the reason that all the articles at the old wiki were created by ourselves. The new wiki will be ready as soon as possible. We let you know when will be ready. We have a lot of tasks with a few volunteers. Thus, I beg your patience to release it sooner. If you have knowledge about wikis. You could help us there too. All assistance there are welcome.
Cheers.

I think the new wiki is in good hands and will soon be available again. Only I see no reason to ignore all documentation reasonably old forum. It may be useful to the user of the Portuguese language that seeks material concerning Mageia 1 and 2.

Sincerely,
