[SOLVED] Epson Stylus Color 600 not printing

[SOLVED] Epson Stylus Color 600 not printing

Postby nutmeg » Mar 27th, '13, 07:03

I got Mageia 3 installed on Monday, and am using KDE. My printer, which is connected via a parallel port (parallel:/dev/lp0) successfully printed a test page.

Today whern I tried to print from Konqueror I got an error dialog.
"The queue 'Epson-Stlylus-Color-600' is not enabled. The reason given is 'Rendering completed'
To enable it select the 'Enabled' checkbox in the 'Policies' tab for the printer in the printer administration tool"

I've done that, but it just reverts to unselected whenever I try to print. I've checked /var/log/cups/error_log which shows "[Job 9] Unable to open device file: Permission denied"
/dev/lp0 has group write permission for the group lp, and I've added myself to that group but it still doesn't work.

I hope I have attached a copy of /etc/cups/printers.conf, but I'm not sure if anything happened when I clicked the link.

Don't see an attached file. :?

When you've added yourself to a group you need to log out then back in. Does catch a few out this.

Sounds daft but did you select the right printer to print too in Konqueror.

Am not on a parallel port for mine but here's mine.

The attachment should be there now.

I did (eventually) log out and log in again. It didn't help.

Konqueror was definitely pointing to the correct printer - the job showed up in the print queue.

It says your

Code: Select all
State Stopped

Code: Select all
Reason paused

:?

If you look at mine it states idle

Did you set the printer via MCC and "Enable" it (Mageia control Center) ?

Yes, I set the printer via MCC and set "Enable" to selected. It kept resetting to unselected because the error policy was set to "Stop Printer". I have now changed that to "Abort job", and it stays enabled but nothing prints.

Further information:
I can print a text file using the command
Code: Select all
cat <filename. > /dev/lp0
so I certainly have permission to access the device
