video chat through empathy cant be done

but now he has the video chat problem but the text chat is fine

I don't know what causes the problem but maybe you could try launching Empathy from a terminal.
This way, when the error message comes up, you will possibly find a more verbose error message in the terminal, which could help you/us solve the issue.

Okay, I'll summarize what we know :
empathy can't start a video call, and issues some kind of Gtk-CRITICAL error.
What does the error message tell us? Not much, I'm afraid, for it appears in various situations, according to a quick google search[1].

With this much, I don't think this can be easily solved. More info would be needed to debug this, though I don't know much about empathy and I can't say which piece of info would be needed.
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will tell you which info you should provide, but bumping the topic every now and then won't help much. Somebody already posted the link to this topic on the mageia-discuss ML, and the answer was:

The Gtk-CRITICAL message is really unrelated, this comes up really often.

What would be of more interest, what Webcam do you use, is it accessible
outside of Empathy and what settings are there in Empathy related to the webcam?
BTW: cheese is a small app to test your webcam.

This problem continues existing in Mageia 2 and in cauldron.
The webcam works fine in other applications so this cant be related with webcam.

I have found why empathy cant run video or audio calls, it needs clutter-gst plugin and the mageia empathy package is not requiring the package gstreamer0.10-gstclutter.

You just need to install that package, you dont even need to restart the empathy application.

And mageia empathy package suggests a package that does not exist anymore in cauldron and in Mageia 2 repositories -> gstreamer0.10-farsight2
