[SOLVED] upgrade from Mandriva with Nvidia

Hi,
Looking to upgrade from Mandriva Linux release 2010.2 . Do we have to upgrade to mageia 1 first then two or three? or can we go straight to three?
Also, will mageia version 3 ( currently beta yes we know) be OK with Nvidia cards?

Well, the only tested and supported upgrade/migration path is from 2010.2 to Mageia 1. In your case it would probably be better to do a fresh install when Mageia 3 comes out,
but keep your /home and create a fresh user. Then migrate all settings step by step to that new users. Cleanest and most hassle-free way.

Thanks for the reply. Do you know if Nvidia is supported in version 3? I read nvidia doesn't work with current version 2.

Both the nouveau and the proprietary nvidia drivers are working fine on Mageia 2 and 3. At least mine are.
There were bugs in Mageia 3 earlier in development, but they seem to have been resolved satisfactorily.

Where did you read that nvidia didn't work on Mageia 2?

The Free DVD is known to generate a non-working installation on many systems with Radeon or Nvidia graphics

That does not actually say that nvidia does not work. It says that the installer may sometimes have a problem. Work-arounds are described. Once the system is installed and configured, nvidia works fine.

The Mageia 3 DVD will include proprietary drivers and so that problem should not occur.
