[SOLVED] Can no longer update

Postby djohnston » Mar 21st, '13, 04:25

Ran updates from Update your system in Control Center. Three rpm packages were upgraded, one of which was rpmdrake. After the repo resync, I was shown several more updates. Now, every time I try to update I get the following error message:

1 installation transactions failed

There was a problem during the installation:

...retrieving failed: Can't locate object method "progress" via package "gurpm::RPMProgressDialog" at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.16.3/Rpmdrake/pkg.pm line 218, <$aria2> chunk 170.

The progress dialog seems to be the culprit, but I could be wrong. I have no idea how to address this. I have already rebooted and updated media sources.

Have you tried from the command line (console)?
As root
Code: Select all
urpmi --auto-u
Even if it fails it may give you a better indication of what is going wrong.

Thanks, Ken. Looks like urpmi was "stuck", as that was the first thing updated.

Code: Select all
[darrel@localhost ~]$ su -
Password:
[root@localhost ~]# urpmi --auto-u
    $MIRRORLIST: media/core/release/media_info/20130321-150000-synthesis.hdlist.cz
updated medium "Core Release2"
medium "Core Updates" is up-to-date
medium "Nonfree Release2" is up-to-date
medium "Nonfree Updates" is up-to-date
To satisfy dependencies, the following package is going to be installed:
  Package                        Version      Release       Arch
(medium "Core Release2")
  urpmi                          7.21         1.mga3        noarch
345B of additional disk space will be used.
621KB of packages will be retrieved.
Proceed with the installation of one package? (Y/n) Y

    $MIRRORLIST: media/core/release/urpmi-7.21-1.mga3.noarch.rpm
installing urpmi-7.21-1.mga3.noarch.rpm from /var/cache/urpmi/rpms
Preparing...                     ##########################################################################################################
      1/1: urpmi                 ##########################################################################################################
      1/1: removing urpmi-7.20-1.mga3.noarch
                                 ##########################################################################################################
restarting urpmi
To satisfy dependencies, the following packages are going to be installed:

After that, the same packages were listed for update that were listed yesterday. This time, the update worked.

It's not a fix, only a work around.

The error only occurs in rpmdrake and only with a few packages. Once these packages are updated or installed using urpmi you don't see the error until you try installing or updating another problem package using rpmdrake.

A quick search of bugzilla didn't find a report on this. I'll try again later and if I find nothing file a new bug.

In the mean time I'll move this thread to "Testing : Alpha, Beta, RC and Cauldron" where it belongs.

Seems to be similar to this:

https://www.mageia.org/pipermail/mageia ... 23649.html

(This problem does not seem to have been reported yet in Bugzilla.)

Sorry, Ken. Is Cauldron the testing section? I should have mentioned it's Mageia3. It's been so trouble-free, I forgot it is still a beta.

I stand corrected.
This mornings updates of gurpmi and rpmdrake seems to have corrected the problem.
