[SOLVED] annoying new "are you sure you want to quit? "

Postby waferhead » Jan 13th, '13, 21:42

In Drakconf, some of the tool windows have an amazingly annoying new "are you sure you want to quit?" popup on closing, do not grab mouse pointer, and no apparent way to turn off.

Worthy of a bug report? New "feature"?

I recall a way to turn off.

The install will not boot gain after latest updates, so I'm going to have to throw in the towel due to lack of time again.

As I mentioned in your other thread, there's already a bug report for this:

I posted this in the bug report area and feel i should share it here. This NAGGING pop up is enough to really make me consider other software.

gcd 2013-02-04 00:00:32 CET

I choose to use MCC and I have logged in with a PASSWORD as root.

I am doing system work. I know where I am and I know when I want to leave.

Having a POP UP like Windows Vista annoy me (twice) asking me if I want to leave is really irritating. It is not a good feature, it is an annoying feature. It should not be once or twice. It should NOT be, period...

Simple is best. Please KILL IT.

Thanks.

Okay, but what is the purpose of duplicating that comment here, even in two separate threads? Please stop it.

My error. I thought I should move it here so it could be with the other ones.

I have mentioned that this feature is annoying and others have as well. I have another issue with it. When you update software, especially now while looking for bugs, the rpm files sometimes have a choice of dependencies to choose from or a box opens up to explain about rpmnew and rpmold, etc... When you look at that added layer of info box during the updates you trigger this feature once again. So, this is what happens: You have updated a program and heve to choose rpmnew or old. You make a choice and the annoying little box pops up asking if you want to quit. You choose yes. usually it goes away. NOT ALWAYS. ???

The same is true with having to choose between different libraries of files to support a choice for software. Again the little annoying box pops up and asks if you want to leave. I had to say I was leaving five times in one instance to get out of MCC. What the hell? Are we adults and do we know why we were in there and what we intended to do by being in MCC?

PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE, KILL THIS ADDED NAGGING FEATURE.

I finally have a clean working install of M3 on an X-31 Think Pad and it is working well. The main bug I have found so far is this feature. I would hate to be so annoyed by this little nagging box that I move back to some other software to get rid of it. Or, put a check mark somewhere and tell us all how to kill this feature. This is not a positive addition to the user experivnce with Mageia software. Just because this feature was dreamt up and it was decided it could be done does not automatically mean that it should have been done.

How many others dislike this? Please add votes in here so we can get a change for this or kill it. Even if it is a 'check here to kill this feature' setting it would be LIGHT YEARS BETTER THAN THIS BEING ON BY DEAFULT.

Anyone agree?

cheers...

It's not that useful if you post that here or collect votes. Please comment on the bugreport, but keep it constructive,
that includes NOT TO SCREAM LIKE THIS as otherwise you are just lowering your chances IMHO.

I get it:
You don't want root log in because you might mess up your system. (You might learn something as well but that is not considered or accepted as an alternative viewpoint.)

You like a nagging nanny pop up program asking you if you really want to leave as you have been trying to quit using the tool that will alow you to wreck your system if you wish. These are diametrically opposing ideas...

We are philosophically opposed on both these issues, I guess. I hate the nagging nanny 'do you want to leave' program and always set up any Linux computer to accept root log in so I can do system work as root with full access to all aspects of the program as I do so.

I mentioned earlier in another post about how many of you think as ADMIN folks. I understand that is what you do as work. That is good and many people need help like that in large companies with networks. I do not use Linux purely as work and I am my own admin since I own all the laptops and desktop computers that I set up as dual boot systems with Linux and Windows. I want full acces to them and I don't want or need some stupid pop up program asking me if I want to quit doing something I have pressed a button to do. Especially if it does not go away each time as it should and forces me to keep clicking it to try to leave. It is not only bad; it isn't consistent in its' actions.

Didn't Vista bother any of you at all as it did me? You want to become the Vista like distribution of Linux?

Sorry to put it that frankly, but that is completely bullsh*t - you misunderstood this completely.
For example, i did even comment on that bugreport and put the same opinion there, to remove that pop-up, and nowhere did i mention that i like this kind of nagging stuff.
Also your comment about not letting root log in is completely off there, can't figure how you come to that conclusion.

The point is: As in politics, screaming and complaining brings you nowhere, you have to participate and contribute to the process
in a proper way so that you have the chance to change something. That was the main point adressed in the previous posts.

Just a friendly reminder, if you continue that path, you can do that somewhere else, but that thread will be closed then. Sadly.

So much energy lost for a such small nagging pop-up... :!:

I'll put my vote in the bug (https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8476) report to remove it.

No need to say more about that ;)

Well, sadly but true - that happens quite often that users get outraged about such small changes and use much more energy
on shouting and posting instead of trying to change or improve this. But whatever ...

On a related note, i've added another comment on the bugreport, summarising the "discussion" about that feature. We'll see what the outcome will be.

After tonights updates it seems to be down to only one "are you sure" for the MCC gui itself, which is reasonable IMHO.

I have begun using CTRL+ALT+ESC as a means to leave MCC and find it works just fine to kill that annoying pop up.

As to the scatological comments previously directed to me, well, rudeness does not cure the inital reason for the argument.
