[SOLVED] System defaults to nouveau driver after update

[SOLVED] System defaults to nouveau driver after update

Postby onlooker » Jan 18th, '13, 13:41

There was an update recently that updated the kernel to version 3.4.24-3. But, after rebooting the system notified me that the nvidia driver could not be found (worked fine up to this point) and was now using the nouveau driver. I tried setting it up again from the Mageia Control Center, but that didn't work. What should I do?

I'm using Mageia 2 32-bit (KDE edition, if that's relevant). Some more info:

Code: Select all
$ lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GF110 [GeForce GTX 560 Ti] (rev a1)

Code: Select all
$ glxinfo | grep OpenGL
OpenGL vendor string: nouveau
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on NVCE
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 8.0.4
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.30
OpenGL extensions:

Um...I'm embarassed to say that I somehow managed to forget to enable nonfree updates. :oops:
I've since enabled them and this seems to have fixed my problem.

Thanks for your help and sorry for such a noobish error on my part!
