After you did the update did it boot to a blank screen?
And do you have an nvidia or ATI video card?
If so then it is a known problem caused by not enabling the non-free software repositories before doing the upgrade.
I hope Mageia 3 will not have this issue, but there is no need to wait for Mageia 3. Just open your Mageia Control Centre>Software>Media Sources and enable the nonfree and nonfree_updates sources, and the tainted and tainted_updates sources (the tainted repository contains packages afflicted by software patents in some countries)
Then do your updates and you should be able to boot OK.
If for any reason you still cannot boot. At the boot screen (after you have updated) you will see there is a choice of kernels. Select the older kernel and you should be able to boot again.
