Is there a setting to show all the subforums? I don't like the nested view.

If I recall correctly, phpBB forums treat all objects (posts, threads, forums, subforums) as identical objects, or at least as implementing the same object.
That means that it doesn't care whether it's a single thread or a great huge uber-forum, it can display it wherever you want it to.
BUT, to change what is viewed on the index page you need to be an admin, and that changes it for everybody. :\
As an admin one can manipulate the way the forums are displayed, but I don't think it can be done on an individual basis.

I've been to forums where there is the option so I would guess it can be done on a per user basis. I just don't know about this version of phpBB.

I'd like that feature too (I hate nested forums, more clicks).

(A bit off-topic, but tangential to this thread, do the forums have to be nested?).

Perhaps not... people will say.

I guess a big poll with 2 or 3 different support forum organizations will tell us what people want ;)

As I don't know the alternative(s) I ask this question before I could vote for any of the options:

The way it is now:
- "Board Index" view ( index.php ) shows the forums, listing subforums below the respective main forum titles.
- a forum view, ex: "Basic Support" ( viewforum.php?f=7 ) shows the list of subforums in the header plus the list of posts to the forum.
(That's the same way we have at MandrivaUser.de, it's the default and I never changed that)

What would be the alternative and what would be the advantage? Could anybody point me to a phpbb3 forum with different setup?

But I can't click one of sub- ones to visit it, nor will hovering on it with the mouse pointer show the "unread/no unread posts" tooltip.

e.g. http://forum.mandriva.com/en/ , but we don't need that many forums in the index (this was is proposal from a while ago https://www.mageia.org/pipermail/mageia ... 00568.html).
