[SOLVED] No sound with new soundblaster recon3d--no driver?

[SOLVED] No sound with new soundblaster recon3d--no driver?

Postby brian_the_droid » Dec 29th, '12, 09:34

Hi,

I just bought and installed a sound blaster recon 3d sound card. Windows plays with it great so I know it's hooked up okay. I can't, however, seem to get any of my linux distros to play with it. That is, they all give me no sound at all. Mageia (currently 3 beta 1) at least informs me that there is no known "OSS/ALSA alternative driver", which may be helpful. It does let me try to select one of the others ones but I have no clue what one might be best for that. Any ideas or solutions?

Thanks,

Brian

From what I've been able to find on the web, support for this card is included in 3.5 series kernels-maybe try MGA3 beta?

Also, I PulseAudio has had complaint with other Creative cards, (I've had to remove an Audigy card from my machine as a result) but YMMV....

Please post the output of
Code: Select all
lspcidrake -v

Also, where exactly did you see that message about "that there is no known "OSS/ALSA alternative driver""

Apart from that, on a related note, you may want to look at http://phoronix.com/forums/showthread.p ... post263899
Also, here's a good post about driver support under linux: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=n ... px=MTEwNTg

@wrw105: He's already using mga3 beta 1 ;)

FWIW, here's a link that may provide some help:
http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index. ... _Intel_HDA (particularly the ''model' parameter' and 'Try a lowlevel GUI tool to control your codec' sections)

Also post the output of
Code: Select all
modinfo snd_hda_intel
from your current mga3 b1 installation, but please use code tags for that: ftp://ftp.mandrivauser.de/rpm/rpm/extra ... e_tags.ogv

There are two settings for audio for me. One that says AMD HD Audio. That one HAS to be on for me to have sound in my other linux distros. The other one said Azalia HD Sound and that one is my internal audio. However, both can be off and it will work with windows.

After numerous troubleshooting attempts, I am RMAing the card and using my internal audio (which isn't that bad). I think the issue is more about my motherboard than that card, but either way, the internal just works and it's good enough with the new speakers I got to make me happy. Also, happily Mageia noted that I switched and auto detected everything! Well done on that end folks.
