Postby stevehendo34 » Dec 11th, '12, 21:59

This seems odd and I can't seem to figure out how to upgrade it.
Long time Ubuntu user that made the switch to this RPM based distro.
I am also new to python and my bok is for 3.X

What do you want to upgrade? Also what is a "bok" ?
FWIW here both are installed in parallel, 2.7 and 3.2

"bok" is a phonetic spelling for book known as a typo.
Thanks for all the help.

Well, actually i don't know what you want to tell me with your last post.
FWIW, you can install both versions in parallel, python3 does not upgrade/replace python 2.7.
If you want to install it, either in a terminal as root just do
Code: Select all
urpmi python3

or in Mageia Control Center -> Software -> Install & Remove Software switch the filter from "Packages with GUI" to "All" and install python3.
You may also want to take a look at https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Software_management

You can run it via
Code: Select all
python3
and there's also the python2-to-3 converter included.

Apart from that, i'm no native speaker and misunderstood the context a bit,
and did not associate bok with book, but AFAIU you want to learn Python, correct?

Anyways, what is the current status of your problem, is it solved or do you still need some help?

[solved] Re python V2.7 not 3.x

"Mageia Control Center -> Software -> Install & Remove Software switch the filter from "Packages with GUI" to "All""
"urpmi python3"
Ether easily solved my problem--my book examples are for 3.x

"Packages with GUI" to "All"
Is something I had not noticed before and I guess should have known the name of the package, (python3), to use with urpmi.
I am pretty much a beginner @ Mageia--I know some don't like beginners ?s
It is odd you did not just give me this answer the first time regardless of the "bok" thing.

"did not associate bok with book" (you)
"bok" is a phonetic spelling for book known as a typo. (me)
I answered the question you asked

Also I am old and bad with Acronyms
Yes I want to learn python for a PI to turn on my sprinklers to grow my food.

Your initial question was not really clear so i could not determine the exact problem,
so first i need to find out definitive information and what you mean, hence i've asked.
My support experience tells me that is better than giving inadequate/unsatisfying answers
which are not the full or correct solution to the problem.

For the acronyms, if you want to know about commonly used: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/List_of_comm ... reviations
AFAIU stands for "as far as i understood"

Anyways, nice to hear that your problem is solved now :D
