[SOLVED]Computer always restarts after shutdown

Postby raveyd » Oct 30th, '12, 23:34

Hi. I just started using Mageia 2 after a long time using PCLinuxOS, and I like it.

Just one problem - my computer immediately after shutting down restarts itself. I had the same problem with PCLinuxOS, and fixed it with some help from the forum (link to thread below):

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.ph ... 122.0.html

In the end I installed the earlier kernel suggested there (2.6.38.8), and it worked fine. The dbus command they recommended also worked (but it doesn't work in Mageia)

I cannot find an old kernel in the Mageia software repository. Is there any way I can go back to an earlier version of the kernel, like I did in PCLinuxOS? Any other ideas for how I can fix the restarting problem?

I am currently using kernel 3.3.8-desktop586-2.mga2.

kernel 3.3.6 did not work either, same problem.

Thanks.

What's the 'Default Leave Option' in KDE-Systemsettings(Session Mangement)? Should be 'Turn off computer', maybe it's 'Restart computer' at yours.
for windows problems reboot; for linux problems be root

I don't know the cause but a simple work around would be to set the BIOS to give you the boot menu where you select which disk to boot to giving you time to hold the power button and turn it off.
There are 10 types of people, those who understand binary & those who don't.

Yes that works (obviously), but it's not solving the problem, and sometimes it takes 2 or 3 attempts to turn off.

I checked that. It was set to "End current session". I changed it to "Turn Off Computer", it did not help.

So - is there any way to roll back the kernel to an earlier version?

Well, I seem to have solved the problem. I reinstalled the boot loader, and disabled ACPI, SMP, LAPIC and APIC in the advanced settings. Now everything is OK.
