[SOLVED] unable to use the package manager

Hi all!
I cannot see anything in the package manager. I've got all the basic sources but the manager itself is not working;


As you can see, I hope. everything is grayed out. Everything else is working. I am posting from Mageia and can do everything I want on the internet so it is not a networking problem.
Any suggestion anyone?

Hi, I have a similar issue, even more so. First off, I'm unfamiliar with this pkg manager gui, I'm accustomed to Synaptic. This is a virgin installation, right off the dvd, but something glitched. The media list is EMPTY, and I have no idea what (or how) to add to it. This is in both gui and confirmed using the command:

which comes back with no result. Before I provide the kernel* list, I'm just wondering how (or if) that's germaine to this?

My www connection is wireless-only for this desktop, via a usb 802.11n nic, and there may have been a bobble in the connection during install? That's the only thing I can think of for the glitch, I verified the iso when I burned it...

Unfortunately it doesn't solve my problem. First of all, in my case anyway, I do have sources enabled, I can add or remove some. I can also look for updates. It is only the install manager that doesn't work properly. For instance I opened it and I was not able to close it ( either by pressing the (x) button at the upper right corner with the left button on the mouse or right-clicking on the icon on the tray and choosing close.
I thought I could close it by rebooting but after doing so I was asked for my administrator password and the install manager reopened without me wanting to do so and I still cannot close it.
I also tried a suggestion from the wiki with the following result;

P.S. I rebooted and refused to open the package manager and it's not there for now. As said I'll see later if I can do something with "urpmi".

I should add for those who might experience the same problem that the command that probably triggered the installation of the 14 files I think is; "urpmi --auto-update ".

And one manages the repos Synaptic uses from within Synaptic (or edits the sources file directly) -- I was looking for that capability in rpmdrake and not finding it, not knowing I had to go via the Control Panel (!) to do that! Failing that, a text list of the url's to manually edit the sources file with would have worked for me too. Glad the automated system worked, once I learned what it actually was.

Coming from Debian doesn't mean you don't need to relearn things And it seems you didn't take a look at the menu.
In rpmdrake -> Options -> Media manager

Failing that, a text list of the url's to manually edit the sources file with would have worked for me too. Glad the automated system worked, once I learned what it actually was.

You can always edit /etc/urpmi/urpmi.cfg manually, if you really want that. For that you may have to read some
man-pages and documentation, see above.
