Mageia2: Mageia Control Center Won't Restart

Postby epretorious » Sep 16th, '12, 06:12

After installing Mageia 2 from the Gnome LiveCD this morning and updating the installed packages I noticed that...

  • If I leave Mageia Control Center open for more than ~5 minutes, it won't open new tasks and it won't restart after I quit the MCC.
  • There are no package repositories in the Media Control Center after selecting on-line repositories - There are only update repositories.
Where are the on-line package repositories? How can I add them to uprpmi.cfg?
How can I restart MCC after the autorhorization expires?

After logging out and then logging back in, I was able to restart Mageia Control Center.

I was able to add "A full set of sources" after selecting "Configure media sources for install and update" -> File -> Add a specific media mirror and choosing "Full set of sources". (In the past, choosing "Update installed packages" option installed both mirrors - full sources & updates - automatically. "Change for change's sake" seems to be the new motto in Linux desktop distributions nowadays.)

Nope, you either have the choice for "Update sources" or "Full set of sources". As the name implies, the former gives you only the update sources, and the latter gives you the full set. Pretty self-explanatory, and this has not changed in the last uhmm 5 years?

There has been a change: IIRC, in the past, administrators were presented with a choice when updating the packages instead of just installing the update repo's. I should know, I've used Mandrake 9 & 10; Mandriva 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, & 2010, and now; this. Perhaps I'm mistaken though: I did used to use easy urpmi to get things set up. :|

This, however, still doesn't explain why MCC won't restart. :!:

Oh, if I could only turn back the clock, I'd gladly continue paying for Mandriva. :o

In that regards, yes there has been a change, as easy-urpmi and tools like that are now superfluous.
The general behaviour of drakrpm-edit-media hasn't changed for years. And i'm also using Mandriva since old Mandrake times ...

Still i don't know what your problem is exactly with the updates handling, besides MCC not restarting when authentication times out, which should be reported as a bug: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/How_to_report_a_bug_properly
