installation of greek support files

Postby dathrien » Sep 4th, '12, 23:29

When installing mageia (just yesterday) I inadvertently installed only english language support files. So, directories and file names are displayed with special instead of greek characters  . Please see attached picture.

Can the problem be corrected without reinstalling mageia and how?
Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi dathrien,

you can change it in the MCC (Control Center):

Go to 'system' and then select 'Manage localization for your system'. There you can select your language - that might work...

Then you should install the locales rpm manually within the MCC or
Code: Select all
urpmi locales-el
(as root in a shell)

I assume it's the correct one for greek letters (according to http://mageia.madb.org/package/show/application/0/name/locales-el), or otherwise you have to look further for the correct locales rpm.

Latte thank you again.
I tried your suggestion . It seems rpmdrake is not installed properly. Here is what I get:

Although I added repositories after installation they are missing. Here is corresponding picture

Interestingly here is a failed attempt to add media
[damon@localhost ~]$ urpmi.addmedia --distrib --mirrorlist '$MIRRORLIST'
bash: urpmi.addmedia: command not found

I suspect all problems have to do with missing greek support files.
I ' d be grateful for any suggestions.

The only point where I have an answer to: you need to be root for the urpmi.addmedia command

I'm sorry but the other parts with your screenshots are looking strange to me too and I don't have any clue how to solve this  Maybe this post will help you further: https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1646&p=11869&hilit=database+recovery#p11875

Well rpmdrake is now functioning.
I have installed greek locale. But directory and file names are still displayed not correctly.
Thanks for your effort to help me

But is greek now selectable in the localization menu of the MCC? If so, please select it and logout and login again... If that does not work I'm really sorry... :(

try in a terminal as root:

Code: Select all

I used the ultimate means.
I reinstalled mageia but did not allow the installer to delete "unnecessary" localization files.
That did the trick. Greek fonts work OK in all applications.
Many thanks to everyone who posted an answer.

PS installing kde-l10n-el did not solve the problem.
