No WIFI with ‎RT2600 802.11 MIMO

Postby gbvoris » Sep 1st, '12, 00:48

The ‎RT2600 802.11 MIMO worked fine in Mageia 1. As I have cable I haven't chased this problem untill now.
I show the router and MCC tries to connect; but finnally gives the message " Error Connection Failed".
The following were asked for on some other forum entries:

I guess you are running mageia2.
Gnome,KDE or...?

could you post the output of

Code: Select all
ps afx | grep -i net

and
Code: Select all
tail -n 100 /var/log/syslog

I'm using KDE, it was Gnome before the update. I don't really care, they both seem to be about the same.

Code: Select all
ps afx | grep -i net

it seems you have this problem:

https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5250

you should select one network manager and stop the other one

and please, reedit you previous post adding the Code tags :)

to stop net_applet, right clich on the icon on tre tray,
stop it an remove the 'start at boot' option

then to setup networkmanager you'll need
to add the networkmanagement plasmoid widget

if you prefer stop networkmanager, search it in
mcc->unistall software and remove it

Will it make any difference if I "upgrade" to the 64 bit version? I installed the 32 bit when -2 came out.

Cross-architecture upgrade is not supported and quite difficult. And it wouldn't make any difference.

ok. I'd like to see connections logs.

can you try to connect, and after the failure message, run

Code: Select all
tail -n 150 /var/log/syslog

and post the output (should be related to the connection temptative)

a couple of years ago, on ubuntu, it worked only on a 32 bit distro:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/75871/d-link-dwl-g510-rt61-card-not-recognized

there is also this discussion held in this year:

http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1981945.html

your card is PCI or USB?

PCI
I think the card is recognized, as it shows the caed in the network center. Even shows the signal strength.

If it's of any help...
I just installed fedora of the other partition. It connects fine to the wired and wireless. I guess that leaves a software problem?

you have some dirty flag on your configuration file,
probably due to having 2 task doing the same job.

Try to delete the connection and recreate it from scratch

How do I delete it? Network manager doesn't seem to offer that function. I would guess that it should be possible in Konsole as root?

what if you right click on that connection in NM?

using the terminal would be better,
but I'm not sure on which files you should delete

Just on a whim, I removed the wired connection and the wirless came up. Now I cannot get the wired to come up. I've got to get to bed, early day tomorrow. I'll let you know Wed. if they both come up on reboot. If not what logs do we need to look at to determine what's screwed up?
I brought up the Applet and darned if they aren't both up now?!?
I'll let you know what happens on a fresh boot.

There will still be leftovers in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/wireless.d/ and in /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf.

OK. Now what? Both connections came up when I turned it on. Any idea as to what fixed it? I would really like to know, might save trouble later. If I turn off the wireless it will not come back up untill a reboot then, even if I leave both connection off when I reboot, BOTH connections come up like normal.
The wireless started working when I turned the wired connection on.

the problem was that you had running two network management system
and both wrote their configuration and both were trying to command you network devices,
so the system was unstable; this is a known bug.

now you have only one network manager and,
after you cleaned the configuration,
it is working fine. or I misunderstood?
