Fixed a bug that caused pre-release versions of X.Org xserver 1.13 to crash when certain GLX operations were performed, such as when starting Firefox.
Fixed a bug that caused VDPAU to hang when expanding the YouTube Flash Player.
Fixed a bug that caused gnome-settings-daemon to revert display configuration changes made by nvidia-settings.
Updated nvidia-settings to use RandR per-CRTC gamma control, when available. When controlling an X server with support for RandR 1.2, nvidia-settings will display the color correction widget as a tab within each display device page, instead of a per-X screen color correction page.
Fixed a bug that prevented the display palette from being updated immediately after an application called XStoreColors.
Added the ability to select and move X screens in the "X Server Display Configuration" page of nvidia-settings via Ctrl-(Left)Click + Drag.

I don't understand much the reason for similar posts, but whatever version Nvidia has now, it sucks. Nvidia used to have the best drivers and possibly it still has, but the quality has dropped quite a lot.
Compositing is much snappier with Nouveau now, whether in KDE4 or Gnome3. Depending on the card, it also has rather satisfactory OpenGL performance, but sure, still far from Nvidia in this regard.
Nouveau's 2D is also way better in terms of speed (with occasional minor visual glitches on GTK3 widgets)
Plus, Nvidia has some strange issues with various things, like WindowMaker where it refuses to run many OpenGL apps in fullscreen, while Nouveau does not.
And it has (mandatory) KMS support.

For gamers, Nvidia is still the only choice, but for the rest, Nouveau may be sufficient, depending on the card.

I'm getting older. So I got this strange thought of getting discrete Intel graphics. Hm, I know, Intel doesn't make one.

on my 2nd computer, nouveau was always the problem,
monitor became empty screen after some weird flickering.
i couldn´t use nouveau, so i am using nvidia driver.

nvidia driver never show me the ¨ëmpty screen¨, hope nouveau become better.
