How to change from nvidia to nv or nouveau driver

How to change from nvidia to nv or nouveau driver

Postby Zamu » Aug 23rd, '12, 22:42

Hi,

This question is related to this topic viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3352.
Since I am having some issues (desktop, video, music,... are not smooth, the halt slightly every few seconds) after updating to the latest kernel (3.3.8-2) and nvidia drivers (295.71) I would like to know if there is an easy way to use nv or nouveau drivers (or even revert to the previous nvidia version), so that I can check if this solves the problem , in which case the trouble should be in nvidia 295.71.

Thanks a lot for your help,
Pablo

try to reinstall all the nvidia stuff and newly configure the xserver afterwards.
for windows problems reboot; for linux problems be root

Thanks a lot for the info and the link. So, if I understand correctly, if I answer no to the proprietary drivers, the nvidia will get replaced by nv, right?

No, IIRC you need to manually select that one, as Nouveau would be the primary preferred alternative.
