[SOLVED] Missing kmail after new install from CD

Postby taoleo » Aug 17th, '12, 23:26

Hi,
Using Mageia 2 with KDE.
Just installed the operating system and updated the applications however there is no sign of Kmail in Software Management, how would I go about finding or downloading it. Or is ther another way to update apart from uning the update in Mageia Control Center?

It is not already in the start menu? As kmail is part of the default KDE installation, at least from DVD, as well as other KDE PIM apps,
like kontact, kadressbook, korganizer and so on.

kmail is not on the live CD.
There is no space on the CD because of the dependency for nepomuk with kmail.
If you want the full KDE suite installed install the package task-kde

@ doktor5000; it's a CD install and no Kontact items are listed in the Software Manager

@djennings; when I enter task-kde into Software Management I get task-kde-minimal which is already installed.

I would prefer to use the Software Management however I see that kmail and the whole Kontact suite is available as a download, is it ok to do it this way?

Edit:
Uninstall that version of Mageia 2 as it was the dual-arch version and reinstalled using the other available CD, updated and then was able to run task-kde4.
All is now good.
Thanks to all for your comments.

There would have been no need to uninstall, you'd only have needed to setup software repositories: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Software_management
and then install task-kde4 and you'd have gotten a full-blown KDE install the same (well, even a few packages more) than the default DVD install.

No problem, maybe next time just ask before uninstalling, might have saved you some time ;)
