nvidia driver update

Postby Erik » Aug 15th, '12, 10:49

since I have installed Mageia 2 with the nVidia driver 295.49 my screen frequently becomes black for a few seconds when I start a new page in Firefox or Chrome. I never had this issue in Mandriva 2010.2. I suspect this behaviour is caused by some problem in the nVidia driver. The newest driver is version 295.59. Perhaps the problem has been solved in the newer version. I donwloaded the driver from the nVidia website, but I do not dare to install it. Do I have to uninstall the dkms-driver that Mageia installed? And, if I do this, do I get back a screen with another, a default driver? Is Mageia planning to update the driver via the normal channel? I hope it does. Does anyone know anything about this?

Greetings,

Erik.

Yes, an updated driver is in the works, but not because of this problem, more because of the priviledge escalation security problem: http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.s ... sure/86747

If you want an updated driver, do not install the one directly from the nvidia website, rather do it like this: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2826

Thank you, Doktor,

for your reply. I read the work around in the thread you gave me. It is all much above me, so I shall wait for the update that is being prepared.

Thanks again and greetings,

Erik.
