Live CD install goes to black screen

Postby richardgmills » Aug 5th, '12, 23:42

It's probably here somewhere, but I can't find it, so sorry in advance if I'm asking something that's been asked 100 times before. — I have tried to install Mageia 2 Live first with Gnome and then with KDE, and both versions take me to what I assume is a big smile, followed by one eye, followed by the other eye, and then a blank screen with nothing happening. I'm guessing this has to do with a video card/driver? I have am using an Acer laptop on which I intended to install a dual-boot with Windows Vista and Mandriva Linux, but the latter ate the former, and I can't find my Acer system DVDs, so I thought I might dual-boot with Mageia, instead, since someone said it is "everything Mandriva *should* have been!" I am not sure what the video card is, and, of course, I now can't go to Vista to view my system info.

Any suggestions to help me at least see Mageia before installing it?

Thanks,

Richard

on the Mageia2 Live CD

to have a boot with a safer video driver:
press F6, select "Default" and enter xdriver=vesa and press Enter.

to have a complete boot in a terminal (no graphics):
press F6, select "Default" and enter a space and a 3 at the end of the line, press Enter.
