Screen problems with nouveau and nvidia

Screen problems with nouveau and nvidia

Postby MisteRibi » Aug 1st, '12, 19:14

Hi,

I have recently install Mageia 2 KDE4 from live usb and I was having two issues even after installing nvidia's proprietary graphics from the repo.
Firstly, the bootscreen/splash is laggy as hell, for passing from a image to the next one( I mean for seen one bubble and after two, I have a black screen and the next image is appearing from up to down in slow motion lol
Secondly, I have a lot of black dots/pixels in the upper left screen. And no, they're not dead pixel, I don't have it in the splash/bootscreen either in windows.
Both of problems are seen with the nouveau driver and the proprietory one.

Sorry for my not perfect English and thanks for taking your time for me :D

Edit 1: The second one seem to be solved by only changing the tty and going back.

Check viewtopic.php?f=23&t=2523 ;)
What worked for me was
Code: Select all
nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=2 -a GlyphCache=1
from the linked bug report as a workaround ...

Thanks for your answer.

I do the code:
Code: Select all
nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=2 -a GlyphCache=1

And in result:
Code: Select all
Attribute 'InitialPixmapPlacement' (localhost:0.0) assigned value 2.

Attribute 'GlyphCache' (localhost:0.0) assigned value 1.

But I don't see the change :?

AFAIR you need to switch to any other tty via Ctrl+Alt+F(2-7) and back to the first one again (F1) to update the screen, then the dots should be gone.
Also documented in the linked bug report ;)

Thanks, that's worked, but dunno why, the grapichal server is in tty2 non tty1 like you mention lol.

It is permament or I need to do that after a certain times or only when restarting?

Sorry MisteRibi, i changed the status of your topic again.
A topic is solved or not, so half-solved sounds to me not solved. ;)

Please use the search function or use the wiki for that, f.ex. https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Installation ... B_stick.3F
