[SOLVED] Mageia 2 VirtualBox

Postby Deri » Jul 24th, '12, 20:43

I had VirtualBox running on my server both Mag 2 and a cauldron guests. I built a larger server intending to help with Q&A but the new server comes up with the message saying "This is a 32 bit computer. You cannot use or install 64-bit software on it.".

The new server is 64bit, is running 64bit Mageia 2 as VirtualBox host, and has 64 bit VirtualBox rpms. The DVD exposed to the guest is the 64bit Mag 2 iso.

How does the Mageia installer decide its inside a 32bit environment?

The original server had a Core 2 Q6600 (which supports Intel Hyper Threads) and the new server has I5 2500 (which does not) - so I may have made a bad cpu choice for the new server (given its intended use)!

It turns out it was fixed by turning on "Intel VT" in the bios, default was Disabled.
