[SOLVED] Still no flash on Mageia 2

[SOLVED] Still no flash on Mageia 2

Postby Trio3b » Jun 27th, '12, 01:37

Thought my problem might be ATI Radeon 9250 causing choppy video but after a reinstall I have very nice desktop effects and the fact that flash content shows either black screen or "plugin needed to view this content" pretty much confirms this is a flash issue.

Followed all reccomends in the MAQeia but still no flash player in Mageia 2 KDE running FF 10.0.4 . I enabled non-free repos and downloaded flash-player-plugin and flash-playerplugin-kde 11.2.202.236 1.mga2.nonfree which seems to be only version available. although MAQeia recommends:

flash-player-plugin-kde-11.1.102.55-1.mga1.nonfree
flash-player-plugin-11.1.102.55-1.mga1.nonfree

After download, FF shows only shockwave flash installed, Adobe flash control panel shows up in KDE system and there is a libflashplayer.so in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins, BUT.... Adobe flash test site shows no flash installed, "about:plugins" in FF shows Shockwave and FutureSplash which is supposedly Flash Player renamed, but still no videos

Also tried Gnash, but the video with sound is only viewable in low quality 240p. 360p is choppy with no audio.

Reading reviews of flash being 64 bit and FF being 32 bit or older versions of libflashplayer being plugged in one at a time to see which works. Something must b/c my MDV 2008 and PCLOS 2010 and 2012 installs do have flash. Also remember a settings manager on the Adobe site but can't find it now.

Sorry if I missed something. This is mostly a business desktop but would be nice to reference instructional youtube videos.

Any help appreciated

Sorry, had no time to update MAQeia for Flashplayer yet, so the version information is for Mageia 1 and maybe outdated, but general instructions are all the same.

Please provide more informations. i586 or x86_64 installation, and what does Firefox show under about:plugins for Flashplayer?
And post links to the sites which are causing issues.

MGA 2 KDE with FF on MSI KT6V mainboard with AMD Athlon 1300 ( i586?) and ATI Radeon 9250. Desktop effects work perfectly.

Sorry not near PC right now but about:plugins showed.

Shockwave
FutureSplash ( version was the latest shown in MGA repos 11.2.202.236)

I have the Adobe Flash Player control center in KDE > settings> network and connectivity .

No need to send links. Any video on youtube or metacafe shows black and never loads. All sites to check flash including Adobe show no version installed, no spinning monkeys nothing. Flash settings panel on Adobe site does not display.

Maybe this will help. Someone on PCLOS forums claims the Radeon 9250 is to blame but desktop effects fine , however:

I tried PCLOS 2012.02 FF13.0 with Nvidia FX5500 in same computer and also cannot get flash. It shows in about:plugins but no flash. Then I see in PCLOS repos that there is an earlier version of Flash 11.1.xxx.xx specifically addresses issues with nvidia graphics, so I uninstall 11.2.xxxx and install 11.1.r102 and I now have flash, Also, PCLOS 2011.6 with FF 4.0 and flashplayer version 10.3.xxxx works fine, so it is either :

1. Some FF versions don't like some versions of Flash

or

2. Some video cards do not like certain flash versions.

I know it is not recommended to d/l flash outside repos, so where can I get older Adobe flash versions through official MGA repos? Apparently the MGA flash-player-plugin scripts automatically downloads the latest version from Adobe site?

Thanks

For 1. no this has nothing to do with firefox itself, maybe more with the hardware acceleration which is used by Flashplayer.
Since recently there were some problems with newer flash versions: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2173

For 2. no, it's merely a bug in Flashplayer as told above, or some problem with libvdpau (the abstraction layer used for hardware acceleration with some video cards)

The mageia package actually downloads the corresponding versions of the plugin from adobe, so if they pull older versions from their servers, they can't be used anymore. Sounds like the PCLOS packages carry the plugin themselves. FWIW, could you post a link to the package you downloaded?

Here -> http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/pclinuxos/apt/ ... S.nonfree/

About 35 packages down you will see flashplayer-plugin ver. 11.2.xxx and immediately below, ver. 11.1.xxxx

Hope this helps.

But as this seems to work for you, why not use it and mark the thread as [SOLVED]
The only other thing would be to try to install one of the older versions from Mageia 1 repos: ftp://ftp.mandrivauser.de/mirrors/Magei ... e/updates/

There you have

Sorry, MGA 2 does not boot with the nvidia graphics. I will have to re-install the Radeon 9250 and let you know if that earlier flash-player-plugin package works.

Thanks

xdriver=nvidia worked and flashplayer-plugin 11.1.102.63 did the trick.

I will try this as well on the Radeon 9250 when have a chance.

Thanks
