[SOLVED] mageia is helpless .. in wlan with zoom x6 router

Postby almusalimalmusalimah » Jun 12th, '12, 04:29

hello everyone

as you can see in the subject

i could not connect my pc with that router except by cable

so what is the problem here

to give you some confusing hint :(

if i put my pc near the modem draknetcenter will connect to it in 2s but it will disconnect

after that

so i tried another network manager so i installed knetworkmanager

but it seems to me it has more issue than draknetcenter

it cant see any wireless net

==============

so please help

==============

ah ... before i go

i used Sagem 2804STC before this router

and mageia doesnot has any problem with it

Re: mageia is helpless and hopeless in wlan with zoom x6 ro

to help you we need more information and in particulars what mageia displays in the logs.

for that open a console, su root with this commant (it will ask for root password):
Code: Select all
su root

then display dynamically the content of the log file with this command:

Code: Select all
tail -f /var/log/messages

press enter 2-3 times to mage spaces then go for your attempt to connect

you'll see lines apperar in your console : paste them here (anonymized if needed : we don't need mac address, machine name, SSID, user names and things like that)
For forum ske please paste these logs between
and
(with no space between code and ])

Re: mageia is helpless and hopeless in wlan with zoom x6 ro

Postby wintpe » Jun 12th, '12, 12:58

looks to me like its failing to get a dhcp address from the router

have you set dhcp up on the router. for wlan.

also its possible its still trying your old connection details , and thats interfering with the connection, resulting in dhcp failing

try cleaing out the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/wireless.d/ directory of previous historic connections

(you may want to back them up, if you roam with this machine)

have you logged into this router and checked that it is actualy connecting to the internet, (or do you know this because other/windows PC's are working.)

does it work over a wired connection?

also can you see from its dhcp tables wether it has granted a lease to your mac address.

do you have a smartphone (ie iphone or android and is that able to connect over wireless.)

you came back so quickly with nothing about the different things your might have tried, can you be a bit more verbose then

"it dont work"

reconfigure the card... disable the ckeckbox concerning networkmanager.

then retry to connect

No need to use that much colors, only wastes time and is disadvantegous for clarity.

Also, why are you posting results from wired connection if you have problems with wireless connection? Like comparing apples to oranges ...

i noticed in some of the code blocks that the frequency was showing a lot of 5 gig frequequencies.

maybe your wireless lan card does not support 5 gig.

set the router to use only 2.4 gig see if that helps at all

what region of the world are you in.

also what wireless lan card is it, if you dont know, then run lspci (assuming its a pci card) or lsusb if its a usb dongle.

you will have gatherd that wireless networking is not great in mageia, or linux, seems to cause alot of trouble for alot of people, but we cant help if you dont help yourself. There are loads of resources on the net about problems, you need to gather from all those resources and then come here with a list of various things you have tried, this will help us to narrow down your problem.

I personaly dont have an issue with my wireless, but thats because i know a little about linux, and stick with known linux friendly hardware.

if you have a broadcom wireless nic, your always going to be on the backfoot as initialy broadcom would not share there internals.

Atheros, prism, intel however are largly trouble free, as they share and contribute to the linux kernel and comunities.

hopefully this will help you understand why it is we are having issues helping you.

OK you have the same atheros 928X wlan card i use on my laptop (which i have no problems with at all).

Product Overview

The Atheros AR9285, our 4th generation, highly integrated solution targeting the value computing market. The AR9285 integrates a complete WLAN solution – media access controller (MAC), baseband, and a high-performance 2.4 GHz radio in a low-cost digital CMOS design.

so its 2.4 gig only

So is the zoom modem, which is odd that its looking at the 5 gig band.

theres no good reason for this to not work, and as ive not got a zoom router difficalt to say wether there is a general compatibility problem.

I certainly sounds like it from what you described.

but i use my laptop with mostly dlink dap 1353's , and at work with whatever they have in the roof, and all over america/hawaii when i went on hols, with no issues at all.

see if there is a firmware upgrade for the zoom, maybe its a known issue.

Re: [SOLVED] mageia is helpless ... in wlan with zoom x6 ro

Postby almusalimalmusalimah » Jun 17th, '12, 22:42

there is four profiles in wireless ..... and they are

802.11b only
802.11g only
802.11g + b
mixed_long

the problem did happen when i choos the other choices except 802.11b

so i guess this why i cant connect to the router

after waiting for long time to find a solution to fix this

its appear to me the bug is not in mageia

its in router itself

so i decided to buy a new one (( tomson )) and it works fine
