notebook external display resolution issue

Postby keturi » Jun 1st, '12, 23:07

I have Mageia 2 on my notebook and on System Setings>Display and Monitor notebook's display (LVDS1) auto resolution (size) is 1400x1050 (proper) and external display (VGA1) max resolution is 1024x768, but it should be 1366x768. What can i do about it? (I'm using KDE and xrandr is instaled)

Which graphics card and which driver are you using? Please show the output of
Code: Select all
grep -i driver /var/log/Xorg.0.log
and
Code: Select all
grep -A5 -i -e "mode " -e "modes" /var/log/Xorg.0.log
and please post the contents of
Code: Select all
/etc/X11/xorg.conf
and please use code-tags for both, as explained in this video: ftp://ftp.mandrivauser.de/rpm/rpm/extra ... e_tags.ogv

Seems it's using only 1024:786 initially, but you should be able to switch that, and you should be able to select up to 1400x1050 for your internal laptop display.
Just try to run krandrtray and set another resolution, does that work?

You weren't meant to try to execute that, but post the contents of that file. Sorry for being unclear about or causing confusion.
Please show the output of
Code: Select all
cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf

With internal display everything is ok, i can not be able to set proper external display resolution, max seting in krandrtray is 1024:786 and it should be 1366x768.

You can not set a correct resolution because according to xorg you can only get a Modeline "1024x768"x60.0 on your external display (according to your xorg log).
So you'll have to enter a specific modeline for your vga output in the xorg.conf to get the correct resolution.

(& yes i don't know how to wrote this modeline but it should do the trick :p )

you can use xrandr to define dynamically those parameters

you can use man xrandr (there are examples at the end of the manfile)
