[SOLVED]mount as user

I have a 2nd HDD with my data partition on it ... when I click on it in dolphin I have to enter root passwrd .... how can I mount this as regular user without adding it to fstab so that its not always mounted. I like to mount and unmount it at will .... thanks for all replies

In diskdrake select Expert Mode, Unmount the partition and then select 'Options'

Set the 'noauto' option to prevent it mounting automatically.
Set the 'user' option to allow non root users to mount it.
Then 'Done' to write the fstab entry.

I think it also depends on the type of file system on the partition. I do not think NTFS will work as non root, and if the partition is vfat you will also need to set umask=0

Thanks ... that worked plus I added myself to the root group ... works fine now ... and it is a NTFS partiton

Well there goes all your security

A more secure way of doing what you want is to give your user the right to to use the mount command as root and nothing else using visudo.
