Config changes/install software/revert to first boot

Postby lewisforlife » May 19th, '12, 21:22

I have a few computers that I am interested in selling. I would like to preload them with Mageia. Is it possible for me to make some config changes, such as adding tainted repo, then installing some custom software, then clear the root password and deleting any users (such as the one I am using to install the software). At this point I would like to set it up so that it is in first boot mode, what I mean is when the user starts up the computer, I would like it to ask him/her to enter a root password, and create a user. Essentially it would be a custom Mageia install at this point.

I am not so interest in using tools like mklivecd or drak-installer, since they are fairly complicated. But I thought if there was just a way that I can make my custom changes to the OS, then delete users and next time the machine boots up, it would prompt for user info, like on the first boot, then this might be workable.

Thanks for the help.

The program that I am interested in re-enabling after I install a bunch of programs might be called the "first boot wizard." It lets the user set the root password, and create a new user.

No actually this is done in the installer. I'm afraid you have to whip up a small script to do what you want, but shouldn't be too hard. But i'll ask some more developers, maybe someone already has some homegrown solution for problems like this, but this may take a while.

Thanks, I would very much appreciate it if you looked into this for me. Also, if there was another solution that anyone can think of, that would be great. Maybe making my own Mageia remix with drakx-installer or another tool might be doable, I will look into this and see how much time/energy I will have to invest to learn to use these tools.

*edit*

I guess I am not so sure a remix would do it, a script is probably the way to go, since a remix would not get rid of my problem that I need to the user to be prompted to enter a root password/new user.
