I have installed and Updated Mageia 1. I am using the gnome desktop.
Can I switch to the KDE desktop without a reinstall?

Yes easily.
First of all set up your online repositories. Set up a full set of repositories. While you are doing it you may want to enable the tainted and nonFree repositories which will be disabled by default.
Now in your Mageia Software Installer select the two drop down filters in the top left to 'All' , and install the package task-kde4 This is a meta package that will pull in all the packages necessary for a KDE desktop.
When complete log out and at the log in screen select KDE in the list at the bottom of the screen (assuming you are still using GDM as the desktop manager)
You can have any number of desktops installed at the same time and select the one you wish to use at login.
