Ha are you kidding...I don't know anybody using linux here in sweden exept myself. Well then living in Ystad not really Malmö just easier to say when you are in a forum where there is people from everywhere in the world. So only 50 km then. Man the best cider comes from Kivik.

Hello to all, I am Costas a multicultural Greek who lived in three countries and 3 continents. I discovered Linux about 5 years ago when I was in my late 60s I got hooked in Ubuntu and installed and operated almost all versions from 7.04 up. I have 3 computers, 2 are triple boot with two linux and XP in between and 1 very old computer with a partially broken hard disk which still runs with 3 Linux distros, Ubuntu 10.04, Mint 11.10 and Lubuntu 10.04 This is my experimenting computer.
Lately I installed again ArtistX an Ubuntu derivative fully loaded with art and graphics software.
I discovered Mageia from http://distrowatch.com/ and after reading some of your pages, I decided to give Mageia a try. At the moment I am using mostly Gnome and LXDE. I am in the process of downloading the torrent from your site and I picked the KDE Europa 1, which will be ready soon.

For now I have no problems, just to mention one extra reason that attracted me in your Distro: The word Mageia in Greek means magic and it is spelled in Greek as: μαγεία in small characters and in capitals ΜΑΓΕΙΑ.

The origin of the name of the organisation and distribution was just this greek word - Magic! After all we are a mulitlingual and multicultural community and you will find many greek people among us.

Mageia provides Gnome as well as LXDE, so you will find a familiar environment here.

BTW: I'm in my late 60s, and there are other "greybeards" around

Hi, I'm a 'baby' when it comes to Linux, started in '07 been on and off though. My first distro was Slackware, then I went to Debian, and after giving into my hatred for it I tried Ubuntu. Since Unity / Gnome is just awful I moved over to Kubuntu / Xubuntu. However, I don't like how Ubuntu / Mac / Windows / Chromium are pushing everyone into 'the cloud' so I'm looking for something new. I would love to contribute in the future in any way I can.

The 'personal' stuff: I live in Florida/America, I was born in Puerto Rico. I'm currently studying Computer Science. I am teaching myself C++ in my spare time.

What kind of computer science degree is this that they don't teach you C++?
I'm just curious because I too am pursuing a Compsci degree and have taught myself a couple of things along the road (Javascript and html/xml markup) but nothing as central as C++.

GNUguy here. Although I'm not so new anymore. Going to be 62 in a few days. Blech! But I am still very GNU-oriented.

Anyhow, I just joined. And first let me say what a fine job the Mageia team has done. Fantastic!

When I started w/Linux and OSS some 10 or more years ago, I hooked up w/Mandrake. I liked it. Then I started distro hopping.

Currently I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1501 with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 and 2GB RAM. It was given to me about 4 years ago.

I tried installing every 64-bit Linux OS I could find at that time on this laptop. FWIW, all the "buntus" were "disappointing." The only distro that worked was "sidux" (now aptosid and forked to siduction). But recently I started having some irritations w/aptosid and started looking again.

I use PCLinuxOS on my desktop where I do all my graphics, scanning, DTP, audio, etc and hopefully some 3D one of these days. PCLOS has been a rock for my purposes. I always wished they had done a 64-bit version that I could put on this Dell.

Finally I paid closer attention to 64-bit OSes on DistroWatch and discovered Mageia. Now I have the Mandrake/Mandriva/PCLOS install for this Inspiron that I've been looking for.

The net install ran without a hitch. Then I added my other apps and everything almost literally fell into place. Kudos to you all.

And I love the look. It is beautiful.

I have been using Linux since around 1997. I started with Red Hat and then tried SuSE and then got addicted to trying every distro. I discovered Mandrake and stuck with it a long time, but then I got disappointed with some of the changes and never tried the Mandravia fork. I switched to Debian based (Mepis mostly, then Mint) for a long time until Gnome 3, which I hate.

Years ago, just before I switched to Debian based, I stuck with PCLinuxOS for about a year, and liked it a lot, so I tried it again, but no 64bit. I saw Mageia was about to release 2.0 and remembered my love of Mandrake and couldn't wait for the final release, so I installed it last week.

I love it. The first thing I did after installing and trying it out was make a donation. I think I'm hooked. Thanks for all the excellent work!

My name is Carolyn. I'm from Cornwall, UK - the setting for the story of Tristan and Isolde, who fell in love after drinking a magic potion, hence my username.

I discovered Linux about three years ago, starting with Ubuntu Jaunty. I'm a bit of a distroholic, but I have my favourites and Mageia has already become one of them along with Mint and Kororaa. I liked Mandriva 2010 and was horrified by the subsequent developments, so I was glad to see the Mageia project starting up. You seem to have a great community, and I see from looking at names of team members etc that you have several women participating actively (including right at the top, which is brilliant), so I think I'll feel more at home here than with other distros.

I'm hoping to be able to help Mageia in some way, although my Linux skills aren't ultra advanced and the time I have to give will vary. I like learning new things and trying different things out. I'm particularly thinking about helping with testing. It would be great to feel that I had some personal connection with what's running on my computer. So often these days computers are used to make everything impersonal.

That's enough about me for now. Look forward to "seeing" you on this forum from time to time.

scarper - no I haven't seen the film. I'm not into films and I gave up my TV when the UK went digital and I'd have had to spend too much money on updating my aerial etc. I get my entertainment from my computer and radio these days.

Just wanted to say I just recently jumped into Mageia 2's RC, and I'm already enjoying what I'm seeing. I was a PCLinuxOS/Kubuntu user, but due to Kubuntu's....usual issues with my hardware, and the age of packages in PCLinuxOS (as well as lack of x64 support) I've lept over here to see how things are coming out. Tried Mageia back when the first version was in testing, and left after a little while. However, I might be here to stay this time as I'm liking what I'm seeing. Already signed myself into the bugzilla to report some bugs to help this release improve (telepathy problem and an audio problem ), and I hope I'm here to stay.
