Several people seem to have issues with wifi and it's difficult to follow the various bugs. I have problems with a zd1211rw and Sandy Bridge Centrino, but the errors fluctuate: sometimes they are more like one bug, sometimes more like another. Related bugs seem to get fixed and reopened.

Does anybody have an overview of the current state of wifi issues? Bug 5015 is a tracker. Should we open a forum thread about this?

I noticed the "bad signatures" bug this morning but didn't have time to look further before going to work.

I signed up to help test, but so far have found no bugs at all besides the one above. I am running KDE 64 bit version on a HP Pavillion dv7 with 4 gigs of RAM. Wireless works fine. Have not tested printing yet, nor the ATI graphics driver. I'll do that this weekend.

While I'm very happy that things seem to be going excellently, I confess to feeling a small bit of disappointment that all I can do is to say "yup, runs fine on my machine!"
I had figured I would at least learn how to submit bugs, hehehe.

Overall I am happy with it. Planning to use it daily for another week in case any bugs do pop up, then will come back AFTER the actual release to do a review.

Yesterday I downloaded Mageia 2 beta 3 LiveCD kDE (32bit)

My video card is Nvidia, so, I followed the guidance of the blog/wiki mageia. In my first test, I choose:
F6 kernel option: defaut
at end of line I wrote: "xdriver=nouveau"

I did not install, just check the functioning with the LiveCD

In the first rapid test everything worked ok
nvidia video card etc.
Another day I will test with more detail and other machines.

Today (April, 20), I install Mageia 2 beta 3 in virtualbox (instaled in Mageia 1). Everything worked ok.
The media/repository was installed automatically (after, I choosed media 1,3, 11,13, 21 and 23)
I installed the updates and then I checked the new packages.

I had to install LibreOffice, but the installation was very good, with automatic selection of the language pack LibreOffice-langpack-pt_BR

Many thanks to the packers, because Mageia 2 come with the following packages:

- Firestarter
- Hardinfo
- Rkhunter
- Dokuwiki
- get-skype (package skeleton for installation)

Probably there are still various other new packages, but I was following those listed here (english)

Are being evaluated in Bugzilla Mageia two packages that I find interesting:

Bug 1208 - google-apps-installer (package skeleton for installation of google earth) (I use in Mageia 1 the package: 32 bit .rpm (for Fedora/openSUSE - reviewed here)
Bug 462 - libreoffice-openclipart, an extension of libreoffice galleries

But for me it is ok, because the many packages already available in repository (I've mentioned before in Mageia 1 here) are attending my needs.

Congratulations to Mageia Team and thanks for the great work

I am running Beta 3 KDE on an HP mini 110-3510nr notebook, but on an external hard drive.
This is my first RPM distro used DEB distros and Arch distros and Sabayon in the past.
Very nice implemintation of KDE.
The package manager was a little different to what I am used to but once I installed all the repos I was on my way.
Very Nice.

Mageia 2 uses "legacy" grub. Grub 2 may be used in Mageia 3.

Minor LXDE issues
  • lxde run dialog (alt-F2) appears behind other windows. Edit: Bug 5543
  • lxpanel: option to configure tooltip and help message about strftime sometimes not visible (switching to vertical panel, then calling the config dialog several times -> option appears) Edit: Bug 5545

Even if I did read it here, could you please file bug reports about such things.
As I tried to explain, most devs and packagers are not reading the forums, so your reports will just be lost.

Oliver, if you meant me: yes, of course. I just wanted to see if there was some feedback first and forgot to ask for that explicitely this time. I suspected the above might be upstream bugs and therefore not ideal to report to Mageia. (I'm new to this.)

I'll report them now.

Just installed Beta 3 as an upgrade of Beta 2. Seemed to do nothing startling, since Beta 2 was fully updated. Will do a clean reinstall if that helps.

The login screen does not go the full width of the monitor for about half a second. Not a problem; more of a blemish.

Existing problem: progress bars don't seem to progress properly. They do nothing until a full progress is reached. In rpmdrake, they will often remain empty at the first package while a whole series is installed. Haven't tested if that is the same in 3.

Do the 5 bubbles mean anything? Mandriva did much the same, and Chakra has a 5-petalled something-or-other. Are there 5 stages to bootup?

I had two failed upgrades of my Mga1 to Beta 2 which used up my bandwidth. Will try to go to Beta 3 next month.

I downloaded the 32-bit .iso and installed it on the following machine (defaulting to KDE; I chose to install the "other desktops" (not Gnome or LXDE) but haven't looked at them yet):

HP p6336f
Motherboard: Pegatron IPIEL-LA3 (HP/Compaq Eureka3-GL8)
Processor:: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5400 @ 2.70GHz (2 of them)
Video: Intel 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (Module Intel 810 and later)
Hard disc: ATA WDC WD10EADS-65M (1 TB)
Memory: 240-pin, DDR3, 7 GB

(I know I could use the 64-bit version on here, but I didn't want to download a separate .iso for the laptop.)

So far, everything is perfect. I turned on tons of desktop effects (I usually have very few on) and the system remains nimble. I installed Emacs and a bunch of LaTeX stuff without a hitch.

I wish I could polish my cred as a dedicated beta tester, but after 4 hours I can't find a single thing to complain about! :D

IIRC unetbootin can't handle hybrid iso's. Try dd or mandriva-seed:

Thank you, works well now.
(no wonder I have such a bad time with iso's and memory sticks.lol)

For me, the offer was there, but the files failed to download. I was going to add a specific source, but haven't done so yet.

I love it, the graphics, the new kde, and running on the 3.x kernel.

Very, very good.

After trying the live iso on s few systems here, intel core i5/4Gb ram, amd fx6100/8Gb ram and then this one, amd 8150/16Gb ram.

So far I have not seen any bumps, Just installed the x86_64 dvd (from a flash drive) in about 40min.

All my favourite apps are in the Cauldron repos (tainted, non-free and release),

I used the F6 key at grub and entered the "xdriver=nouveau" (without the quotes) and told it where the partitions were and we were off.

Just updated from Cauldron and have yet to reboot, but all seems fine.

I've yet to get the rt kernel up for recording multitrack sound, with the nvidia drivers and vbox(amd64) playing my favourite flightsim, DiD's F_22.

If I could just get (Steam) CounterStrikeSource to run.....

But I will, and in the mean time, This is great, all my hardware works(have not checked printer yet) and I'm very impressed.

Cheers Mageia!

Regards Glenn

Ran the Mageia-2-beta3-LiveCD-GNOME-Europe1-Americas-x86_64 on a Fujitsu Lifebook AH531 (Sandy Bridge). What works:
  • Bluetooth (file transfer from mobile phone; use it as remote)
  • Special keys (brightness, volume, airplane mode, lock touchpad)
  • All hardware recognized
  • Webcam @1280x1024
  • Sound
  • Optical drive (burning not tested)
  • Gnome in standard mode (whatever it's called, not fallback)

Wifi didn't work; don't have a LAN cable. Not tested: installation, printing, compiz. Can't troubleshoot wifi, because it's not my machine and I'll lose it soon.

First time user here; installed it twice (i586) on separate partitions, one dedicated to KDE 4.8.x, the other GNOME 3.4.x.

After Saturday's main batch of updates, I'm glad to report the boot process is nice and smooth...much better than what passes for progress over at *buntu.

Some suggestions (see attachment please):
package Oxygen fonts and make them available.
shrink 'Mageia Control Center' fonts and make them comply with defaults.

I've been a user of *drake-based distros since '03; Mageia 2 is by far the best since the last days of Mandrake. Extremely smooth and fast. Just wonderful, guys. :D

I'm impressed, pretty fast and all my hardware is working without any issues.

Installed mag2b3 with Xfce, I chose (during the installation) just "other desktops" and had to install Xfce manually later. Would be great to chose Xfce like LXDE during the installation with a simple click instead of searching for the "task-xfce" package. Anyway, the desktop looks great ;)

I'm coming from Fedora16 and Mageia makes a very good impression to me, stable (I did not have any feeling this is a beta-rls at all:) ) progressive design and functionally, and the mageia control center combines all useful.

I'm looking forward to the final release, good job guys!

cheers

Hi,

here is my feed back...

I'm using cauldron since few month as my principal workstation, and I get a pretty good impression of mageia 2.

Some good point :
- The design is much more professional, the background is better than the one from mageia 1, especially on my 24 inch lmonitor(it was kind of creneling before)
- KDE 4.8 is really impressive and fast, even with 2 monitors on a "not so good" laptop.
- We can use 2 monitors without issues(you can't imagine how long I wait that function...) I have still to test when I unplug and plug the monitor a lot, but as a fix computer, my laptop is working nicely.

Bad impressions :
- My KDE rendering system is broken, I ca't select opengl really, and xrender doesn't do the job... It happen since 1 week, or less. (The same tme the taskbar stoped to be transparent).
- Sometimes recently, my KDE configuration was not usable anymore, or I got the surprise to have 2 panel on the bottom of my screen, at the same place... With transparent taskbar, the effect was not so good...
- the Ticket about CPU fan (1741) is still not resolved, after 10 month, even if it was accepted as major severity... (The CPU Fan speed doesn't adjust before puting the laptop in sleep mode... so it can result to CPU at 100°C without fan running...)

To summarize, Mageia 2 seems to be a really good product so far, but i would recommand you to create a script to reset the KDE interface to something "as mageia team want's it". It would allow people to reset there KDE if they don't find a way to repair it, and to start for the same point after the update.
It could be a available script, but not executed during the update...

(I use KDE 4 since madriva started to put it in place, and I don't think I'm able to resolve all issue I get sometimes by doing strange things with my mouse, without knowing what...) And reinstalling mageia don't reset the interface if you keep you home partition.

Did a fresh install of Beta 3 on my Samsung netbook last night via the net installer. Overall things seem to have gone ok.

Like a previous poster I noticed the lack of xfce as an install option, and when I did install it it brought in and used the la-Ora theme.

So far the system seems to be nice and stable, although I haven't had a chance to do too much with it yet.

I noticed xfce using ia-ora some time ago and did mention it on -dev ml iirc.

About the installer option, we did discuss it some time ago but did not find "the best" solution.
It's too late for Mga2 now, but we should find a solution after the release.

does the systeme freeze for a long time ?
Could it be your CPU temperature that goes to high and freeze ?

no
but ... take this as an advice .... the CPU temperature will kill the whole system to prevent cpu from damage
